while i do enjoy this gym and its environment, i have some key issues with it as well.
issue number 1: lack of air conditioning. at iron knight, there are a few fans per side which offer some air flow, but on a good, hot day i find myself getting nauseous from the heat. while i understand that many people enjoy this aspect of the gym, i think it can get a little dangerous this time of year, and that they would benefit greatly from the addition of some newer, larger fans.
issue number 2: lack of clean equipment. most equipment at iron knight does not get cleaned, at least regularly. almost all of the barbells have lots of rust on them, which will stain your clothes and skin. this also makes it particularly difficult to load plates onto the barbells and such.
issue number 3: outdated equipment. on the crossfit/oly lifting side of the gym, most equipment is well kept and updated. however, on the powerlifting side of the gym, the majority of the equipment is worn and even broken. other equipment, like pins to adjust benches/squat racks, is missing entirely. there have been several instances in which i have hurt myself trying to adjust something, such as the other day when trying to do a low pin squat, where i bruised my nail and broke it off after catching my finger between the pin and the squat rack while trying to push and force the old, bent pin through the metal pipe and secure it into the rack.
all in all, i enjoy the location of this gym and the fact that it allows me to get a good workout in while training for competitions. but in order to be a great gym, i really think it could...
Read moreIron Knight Gym is AMAZING! This gym has literally saved my life. Before joining IKG I was in such a dark spot in my life. I had just gotten out of a rough addiction and I was really beaten down. I wanted to find something that would make me feel better. I was always over weight threw my whole life, I really wanted to change that and get healthy. I saw a 6 week challenge on Facebook for IKG and I was interested. I went and met Alex and we talk about my goals, it was refreshing having someone who made me feel like they knew exactly how I felt. From there I was hooked. I loved going and doing the bootcamp classes. What I loved most was the camaraderie that I felt in classes and how every cheered you on to finish the round. After a while I did fall off and life happened and I used it as an excuse to not go to the gym. I finally got enough motivation to come back to IKG and it's been the best decision ever! Since being back the last 6 months I've felt incredible. I've lost over 30lbs, I've gained muscle, I've lost inches and I'm feeling GREAT! I have now turned this into a whole new lifestyle that I love and enjoy. Now when I miss a day at the gym I'm really bummed where before I would've looked for reason not to come. I cannot thank the IKG family enough for bringing me in and making me feel like a part of their own. This place has changed my life and I am beyond grateful I found it. I recommend this place...
Read moreIron Knight Gym is the real deal. Most gyms you will both see and feel rather quickly, itâs a business. Iron Knight Gym doesnât even come close to feeling like a business but has quickly evolved into a true community. They have managed to grow from a powerlifting specific gym into an elite facility catering to every fitness and health goal you can imagine. Although they now offer boot camps, group training, one on one training, dieting assistance and much more they have still managed to stay true to their strength training roots with not only adding a higher quantity of equipment but QUALITY pieces for their strength training athletes. I evaluate businesses every day and one key component that I always look at is how the ownership invests back into their business. Every investment Corey and Ivy have made back into the business has one common motive, to improve the experience and value for their members. If youâre the person thatâs never worked out before all the way to the elite level strength athlete do yourself a favor, come home and join a culture that will help you reach your...
