So I went to this Meijer to return some shorts. I go in and head straight to customer service. After talking to the customer service rep I realize I brought the wrong receipt. No biggie. So I headed back to the clothing department with the shorts to look at some clothes. Then after a few minutes I overhear a lady with a shopping basket on a cordless phone saying "he has a receipt in his hand." She was obviously loss prevention working in civilian clothes. Then a manager walks up to me inquiring what I'm doing and I tell him how I was going to return the shorts, but forgot the receipt. He then wouldn't let me leave the store with them. I told him that he could check the video surveillance and clearly see me walk in with them straight to customer service. He then says because he personally didn't see me walk in with them, that I didn't bring them in. He was persistent that the video surveillance didn't mean squat. After arguing with him he finally said that if I'm going to leave with them that he couldn't stop me. So I finally left incredibly pissed off. I've worked in retail for many years and couldn't ever treat a customer as if they're a criminal. I then made a complaint to Meijer corporate which just transferred me to the store and couldn't care less. I've always had a good experience at Meijer, but this was one that I will not forget and haven't...
Read moreThis is the cleanest Meijer you'll find around, and also the most modern looking. The selection is good enough, though they can be a little pricier than competitors. Their produce is also hit-and-miss. Don't ever buy the raspberries, as they're always mushy.
My biggest gripe with this particular Meijer is the staff. There's a few there who seem to take pride in their work and customer interaction, but most of them are obviously just running out the clock. The level of unprofessionalism I've encountered has been staggering.
Examples include: Hearing a stocker snap at a customer after a simple and calm question. I mean, she was clearly annoyed. Her response dripped with rudeness, something along the lines of "I don't KNOW. It's OVER THERE SOMEWHERE!" I couldn't believe it.
Hearing yet another stocker literally yell out "WHO PUT THIS S* HERE?" He could be heard several aisles over.
Someone came to help me with a problem regarding check-out. She was irritated that she had to do her job with a not-so-subtle roll of the eyes. Sorry, lady. I guess I'll just stand at the check-out forever and not get the problem resolved next time.
In short, the store itself isn't bad, but most of the staff I...
Read more'Twas 4 days till Christmas, and a storm was about to blow in. All the lanes at Meijer were so overcrowded that even the store manager had to come in.
But what to my wandering eyes should appear but a whole bunch of self scan lines and only 2 employees to help customers get their items out of here.
The regular lines never have staff, and the management wants you to know that the self checkout is pretty much the only way to go.
So me and my wife finally got through, but I am now here to leave this bad review.
Meijer used to be the one-stop shop, but now, with bad staffing and worse management, you are better off just to store hop.
So take my advice and avoid this store, especially if you don't want to wait for an hour or maybe even more....
Meijer can do better, and they should do it quick before the rest of us decide to move on to new stores with better service that we will...
