Refund Denied after DMV validates complaint. In 2024 I had a restriction to renew my registration. I called DMV & says it was tolls. I called several toll places & ended up calling ERT since DMV didnt have the name. In 2023 I paid $440 dollars for past tolls. I asked if this was all of my tolls. I was advised yes. Well that was a lie. I only had 4 cars in my entire life. This car in my complaint I sold was my Godfatherâs who passed away. BTW I didnt find out what car it was until this year. I gave the License plate number to DMV & it wasnt attached to my name but it was on the statement because it was sole. ERT charged me for a car I sold & a car I no longer had. The bill went from $38.00 to about $250.00 this year. It was a bill from 2014 that I donât have & never received. I also never received any statements for this bill this entire time. I would have never let a toll bill go 11 years without questioning it. I had something similar happen with the tax office for this same sold car & they corrected me & refunded my money a few years ago. I sent an email to ERT customer service for a complaint & I let them know I was waiting on the DMV to contact me back & confirm. I have no idea what I did with the bill of sale for the car. ERT said they needed a statement from the DMV to clear that specific toll. DMV has a special department that handles this since it is so far back. I had to email them only. I emailed DMV alot of times and called them. The agent on the phone said I had to wait because they were the only dept to handle it. I called & emailed ERT extensively over this & questioned the validity of it & why is this popping up 11 years later. Secondly I had no toll holds on my car this entire time & registered my car up until 2023 which I paid $440 or so. Then in 2024 an 11 year toll pops up. There is not a statement to look at online. Everything I have is emailed from customer service. My car had been registered with NO TOLL holds from 2014 except 1 in 2021 & now 2024. July of this year I paid $249 or so dollars for an 11 year toll that I never knew of for a car I sold & the tolls I had from 2024 up until July 2025 totaling $739.94. ERT said in order for thr toll to come off I had to pay. I am convinced just like the tax office ERT reset their system - what is the reason for something like this to just come up? When I paid the $739 I was advised that I can call back when I have info from the DMV. DMV sent an email finally on 9/15/25 after my emails from Feb this year. That is how long it took. They also mailed me a hard copy confirming that I was not the owner of the car based on the statement I received from ERT. I sent ERT an email with the info from DMV & they denied my refund of 250.00. I will be taking this up to the state. There is NO reason I should pay for something that I...
Read moreIn reading some of these other reviews, predatory is an apt descriptor of this company. The first notice we had about an unpaid toll debt of $111.91 from ERT was a letter from a debt collecting law firm âLinebarger Goggin Blair & Sampson, LLP.â We had 3 vehicles during our 4 years in Virginia and not once did we have any issues with receiving our toll bills, so I thought this was a scam. I emailed ERT customer service to be sure, and initially they had responded by sending me an invoice stating that we owed them $142.72. I emailed back immediately (on a Tuesday, no weekend/holiday excuse there), but after a few days there was no response. I then called (because this had to be a mistake of some sort) and was shocked to learn that we did, in fact, have an unpaid toll on a vehicle that we hadnât owned in months and certainly hadnât driven through there in even longer. As it turned out, they had mailed that one toll bill and the subsequent debt notices to the wrong address, an address that we hadnât lived at in years down in Texas. The worst part was that despite them confirming that theyâd cussed up and theyâd used the incorrect address, I was forced to pay way more than I should have, otherwise this situation wouldâve gotten worse. In short, a $5ish toll skyrocketed to $111.91 according to the notice, but when I emailed/called it was at $142.72, and in speaking with the customer service rep I drilled into them (a bit rudely) that this was entirely their fault and I shouldnât have to pay for anything more than the original toll. She decided that she would knock $25 off - the most recent of the late fees - and made it sound like she was doing me a grand personal favor. Now, I get yelled at a lot for stuff that isnât my fault at my job, so I go quite far out of my way to be extra kind to people just doing their job. That being said, we were 2 months away from an international move and I was at peak stress levels in addition to them admitting that they had screwed up, so this was when I lost it. She put me on hold stating that she would speak with her supervisor, then came back and said that they could only lower it to $108.95. Because we were saving up for the move, I was able to just pay it and get it over with. I had accepted that this wasnât a battle worth fighting over, and not long after all this happened we were going through our move and it was mostly forgotten aboutâŚuntil about a week ago. Remember that last unanswered email I sent? Well, I had been going through my junk folder before deleting everything and I received a response. Yep. Their customer service is so wonderful, not only did they lower what should have been a $5ish toll from $142.72 to $108.95, they replied on August 14, 2023 to an email that was sent to them on November 1,...
Read moreMy wife just received a collections letter from an attorney (linebarger Googan Blair & Sampson) regarding $78 dollars worth of tolls (Delivered on 12/24. Merry Xmas huh?). She had called to pay my toll (that I received in the mail) a month prior and while she was on the phone with them, they told her she had no tolls due for her car. So she called ER because she thought it was some sort of scam. They told her that it was in fact, correct and since she had not paid, they then send it to collections. She told them that she never received a bill and they were able to provide details on when those were sent out. We moved twice last year, and no only did we update our info with the DMV, but we also forwarded our mail with the USPS, which should continue doing that for 1 year. They said the address that they had sent ALL 3 of the bills, as well as the 3 reminders, were sent to our OLD, OLD address. She tried to tell the lady this, but she was not very helpful and said that there is nothing that they could do now. We would have to call the Attorney / collection company. So she called them and they were very rude and wouldn't let her finish a sentence. Mind you.... my wife RUNS A MAIL SHOP, and I do invoicing for a company so I think we're pretty knowledgeable about both. ERC did NOT update their records correctly and when they received the mail back from the USPS, they still did not look into the records. I guess its easier and more profitable for a government agency to just fine you and send you to collections than do their job. Then, when your the fraudulent Attorney who figures out they bought a bunch of fraudulent debt from ERC, its easier to just threaten you with more fees and extort you out of the money. I hope you all sleep well knowing you just robbed a good people with a baby on the way a day before Xmas. ...
