I had the pleasure of being treated to a scalp & hair spa treatment this weekend. It was an absolutely wonderful experience from the minute I walked into the door until I left. I honestly will say it was way more than I expected. I don’t think I really understood the service she offers. It’s not just a scalp massage and shampooing your hair. Not only did I feel pampered, but I was also educated about scalp and hair care. Kelly explained with great detail and what happens to your scalp and hair with unfiltered water. If you have Hallsdale/Powell water service then you know what I’m talking about. These are before/after photos of my scalp analysis from the Diamond Head Spa. My before photos had visible signs of minerals on the scalp along with product buildup causing the follicle to be clogged up.

The owner, Kelly Smith, has been taking care of my scalp and hair since I came to her bald at the end of chemotherapy. That was 16 years ago - she has listened to my wishes and shown me how to care and style my hair to get results similar to hers when I’m traveling and she has explored color with me - giving me a distinctive pink “peekaboo” underneath my gray hair when it grew long during and for a few years after Covid. She is meticulous in the cleanliness of her shop and a truly gifted stylist. She makes me very comfortable when normally hair salons and beauty spas are not places that I feel that welcome. She is professional and a real resource when I have questions about my hair and scalp. I feel I was over charged. I am ok paying $75 for the haircut and $130 for base color even though we were just covering roots. But all the add ons like $25 for a drop of solution in my color calling it “add on chemical service” and $25 for “split end haircut technique” on top of a $ 75 haircut does not sit well with me. Shouldn’t a $75 haircut include removing split ends? I tipped 15% with the total being $322 for root cover and haircut. I feel I was taken advantage of and over charged. Maybe inform client of all charges prior to appointment like you ask for a deposit prior to appointment....
