Florida Peacock Bass — Local services in Princeton

This trip was for my grandson who was turning 10. My wife and I (Nana and Pops) take each grand child on a special trip with just us when they turn 10. My grandson wanted to catch Peacock bass in the everglades for his trip. We went 2 days in a row. Each day was a wonderful experience. The first day, Captain Bill took us north of Fort Lauderdale to Lake Ida and the canal system there. We got rained on but we caught a ton of peacock bass and clown knifes. Captain Bill really knew what he was doing and provided a GREAT day for us.

On the second day, Captain Robert Miley took us south to the old Areojet canal system. He put us on a ton of peacock bass, one right the other. My grandson was having a blast. Then toward the end of the trip, my grandson hooked into a Tarpon and he fought it for a long while. Captain Miley was great in guiding my grandson how to maneuver and handle that fish. He eventually netted him and got him in the boat.

Gotta start by saying we fished on the heels of a full moon and multiple cold fronts dropping the water temps down 20 degrees from normal. Captain Rick got us going immediately but the bite was just not there. Rick kept on it taking us to spots that he thought held fish and we started catching. All in all we caught 3 different species of fish; largemouth bass, Peacock Bass and the Clown Knife fish. What a treat for us who are out of state and have never even seen the Clown or Peacock. Captain Rick is great. He stays with it, will put you on the fish, teach you what to do and is not judgmental or condescending as some guides tend to be. I have been out twice through this service, both times with Captain Robert Miley. The first time last July we had an excellent morning, catching multiple trophy size fish, in the falls canals. I had to come back and bring my son, and we had another great morning fishing the aerojet canal in the Everglades. Both times Captain Robert was super professional, knew exactly where the fish would be, and taught us a lot about fishing. He had great shiners to fish with both times and coached us up on fishing them correctly.
