I love this beach, and have for years. It's close to home (~45 minutes) and I like that you can drive onto and park on the beach - I refuse to go to Galveston beach because I have kids, and I'm not trying to bring everything from the truck to the beach and back. If you go on a weekday or when it's chilly, there is almost no one there, so it's very relaxing. There is a portion of the beach that requires a $10 vehicle pass, which I gladly pay, and further down there is a free portion that requires no pass. You'll need to purchase a $12 annual beach pass at a convience store nearby and then no other daily fees like you'll find at Galveston. There are beach houses...

For better quality and amenities, it's advisable to visit either Galveston or Sylvan beaches if you're traveling from Houston. Basic facilities such as diaper changing rooms or washrooms are difficult to find near the beach, and the available portable washrooms (porta-cabins) are dirty and unhygienic. Sylvan Beach excels in all areas except for its food options. Galveston Beach is also good, though it suffers from crowding and...
