I went to walk in care with a swollen leg, never imagining it would turn out to be a very extensive blood clot. So I am lucky and grateful that they caught that.
However, the ER was AWFUL.
There is no sink in the bathroom.
They let me lie on a completely uncomfortable gurney with a bad pillow for hours and just disappeared before finally moving me to a recliner for better support for my arthritic neck and even though I complained and was promised to be moved way earlier in the night.
They said they would bring my blood pressure meds at 830 and they never did, also not starting any treatment for the clot, so making the situation much more dangerous because my blood pressure was extremely high.
They said they would bring me food when I asked around 930 because I hadn’t had dinner and they didn’t bring anything until 1130 when I complained again. And then it was a totally inedible dry ham sandwich.
They let me rot in the ER for a total of 7 hours before getting me a room at 2 am.
My husband had brought my meds since no one in the ER could be bothered and then the hospital tried to take them away from me and lock them up “for my safety “
About 3 am, finally falling asleep, I was disturbed by nurses laughing and gossiping right outside my door, so I got up and started doing computer work because there was too much noise to sleep.
About 4 am a male nurse came in and lectured me extensively about how I shouldn’t be on estrogen for intolerable hot flashes, and I said that was a conversation I should be having with my doctor. He would not stop and forced me to defend my life choices at 4 in the morning, which I feel is COMPLETELY inappropriate. Had I been a transgender man using estrogen to transition, I guarantee you no one would have dared talk to me like that because it would have been seen as prejudicial and potentially hateful of a special group.
I wound up not getting even one minute of sleep when my body was in an immense crisis.
My discharge was late because they forgot to order one of my tests and they sent orders to the pharmacy way late and then made me wait for two hours to hear things I already know.
And they prescribed a medication that is very closely related to one I’m allergic to and no one even discussed that medication with me or its side effects.
Also, the hospital took it upon themselves to make me a follow up appointment with my regular doctor for a time I can’t possibly be there due to a different appointment and didn’t even bother to consult me before they did it. When I protested and insisted they cancel it, they refused, saying it was after 5 pm so they couldn’t cancel it and I would have to take care of it. Which means I get to be the one to be on hold for 20 minutes listening to awful music when I call in.
Overall, I’m grateful to be alive but completely disgusted by the lack of common sense and common courtesy, and, at times, just plain incompetent care.
Update: I filed a grievance about the issues with my care. I talked to several people who all pretty much said sorry that happened but we were really busy that night and we will discuss it with our staff.
When I said that just discussing it was not enough of a response, they asked me what I wanted and I said I wanted an apology from the nurses who kept me awake all night with their laughing and gossiping and I wanted to hear what the plan was for improving the terrible communication between staff and patients once they had discussed my grievance.
Well, it's two months later and the apology letters I was promised and the follow up call with a better answer as to what they were going to do about it have not yet arrived.
Since I feel like I've now been blown off twice, I have filed complaints with a few oversight agencies.
I think the lack of follow through from management completely explains why the staff is so poorly coordinated. How are they going to do any better than...
Read moreI can’t say enough wonderful things about the nurses and midwives at the birth center who supported us during the delivery of our daughter, Aubrie. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely embraced and cared for. Even before we stepped through the door, the atmosphere was already set with essential oils diffusing, creating a peaceful and welcoming environment.
The nurses were absolutely extraordinary—truly a step above in every way. They were not only incredibly attentive and responsive, but they also took the time to truly listen to us. No question was too small, and no concern was dismissed. They anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, always making sure we were comfortable and well-informed throughout the entire process. Their warmth and compassion made an already intense experience feel manageable and even reassuring.
Beth and Ame, our midwives, were equally incredible—knowledgeable, patient, and skilled. They guided us with confidence, offering various labor positions and techniques that helped us through each phase. Their calm demeanor and clear communication made a world of difference, and I always felt like I was in the best hands.
What truly stood out was the nurses' personalized approach to care. They didn’t just follow a protocol; they really got to know us as individuals and made sure our birth plan was respected every step of the way. I especially felt their support when it came to my breastfeeding concerns. The lactation consultants were attentive and incredibly helpful, giving me practical guidance and reassurance that helped me feel more confident and empowered.
Thanks to this exceptional team, our delivery experience was not only smooth but deeply meaningful. The care we received went beyond professional—it was heartfelt and genuine. We’re so grateful for the nurses and midwives at the birth center, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you're looking for a birthing center where you’ll be supported, respected, and cared for as more than just another patient, I wholeheartedly...
Read moreSecond update: I just got another bill from Reedsburg Area Medical Centre and still have heard nothing back from customer care. Our total is now 1,004.00 for what was quoted as a 242.00 appointment. This is not including gas.
Update to add: I called customer care as requested two days ago and they still haven’t gotten back to me.
This hospital is a very disorganized mess. We booked my immigration health screening in advance and asked for the cost and were told 242.00 for my appointment, which we paid at registration before the appointment started.
We were sent to a different part of the hospital for bloodwork and a urine test (which is required for the appointment I booked) and the nurse asked us about billing. We explained we already paid and I asked four different staff members to verify whether or not it was included, or what the cost may be if it isn’t and not one of them could give me an answer. We spoke to customer service, front desk in the lab, front desk at the front of the hospital, and the nurse that did my lab work. They sent us to a totally different hospital in Baraboo without warning us to do another blood test that Reedsburg couldn’t do, which Dr. Neissem assured me would be free.
Two bills later, 260 from Reedsburg and 106 from Baraboo. Total of 608.00 for 242.00 appointment.
I got my vaccine booster that I was told Dr. Neissem required and returned after he called me to verify everything was ready for pickup. I show up to my appointment to pick up paperwork (3:00, shortly before close at 4:00) and he tells me I had another vaccine he forgot about and in order to get my paperwork that day I would need to go get the vaccine. This cost us almost 200 dollars for his mistake.
Grand total came to almost 800 dollars not accounting for 8+ hours of driving in gas.
The only good thing I can say about this hospital is Dr. Neissem’s nurse is fantastic. She stayed late after work so we could still pick up my paperwork after close even though it was the doctor’s mistake, and not hers. She’s an...
