One of the largest and most impressive farmers markets with fresh produce and large selection of food stalls. As an avid fan of farmers markets, I've been to over 20+ FreshFarm & Central Farm Markets in MD, VA, and DC and the Reston market is among my favorites. There are over 20 food stall and produce vendors as well as several craft vendors around the lake. Lots of selection!
I really enjoyed a fresh blueberry cobbler at one of the food stalls. I bought 2 packs of blueberries which stayed plump after 10 days.
I got fresh green beans, red potatoes, and corn. I bought handmade spinach Tagliatelle and cheese pansotti (large raviolis) from Cavanna Pasta. They were sold out of the eggplant parm, which is quite tasty! With my fresh produce and pasta, I cooked up a storm for a dinner party and everyone enjoyed it! We made a casserole out of the veggies. Both pasta dishes were a big hit, the spinach Tagliatelle was really soft and goes well with pesto. The Pansotti is light with a bold flavor of cheese and garlic blends well with a marinara sauce. Will be back for more pasta dishes!
The entrees from GreenFare were a hit or a miss. I really enjoyed the Organic Thai Kale Quinoa, I had several helpings throughout the course of the week and it keeps well. I wasn't a fan of the sweet potato lasagna. It just tasted funny and sadly threw it away. I also wish the vendor refrigerated the entrees at the farmer's market as they were in direct heat, which may have contributed to the quality of the food.
Get here early as things gets sold out and selection starts getting limited after 11am. Parking may require some patience. Impressive farmers market and looking forward to coming back when I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery fresh produce, flowers looked great. There are 2 bakeries, 2 meat places and terrific Turkish food. The Gelato is tasty and they even have fresh tapped maple syrup from Hillsboro, VA. I picked up some marinated carrots with balsamic and rosemary to try. The best is an organic juice place, Roots2Rise, a small family-owned company. The 2 nice young people at the booth work for them and can describe their entire process. The flavors are fresh and subtle, and they can tell you the sweetness factor. I love the names such as goddess, warrior and lotus, etc. This place also has fresh made vegetarian soups which are frozen in 2 sizes., which is convenient. I love the African peanut with a hint of curry or the thick style gazpacho. None of the soups are real spicy, which is good since I'm a bit of a spice wimp. I suppose spice afficionados can add...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could 0 stars I would. Absolutely horribly managed place. They do not allow dogs, and in my opinion, this is not adequately communicated. Was all the way into the market with my dog before anyone (rudely) let me know that dogs were not allowed. They had a sign stating that dogs were not allowed, but this was in the middle of the market, not at the entrance. I saw several other dogs owners that also didnāt realize dogs werenāt allowed, so it was not just me.
Parking was absolutely horrendous. The folks directing traffic obviously had no idea what they were doing, and it was a total mess. I spent 30 mins trying to get into and out of the parking lot to only be at the market for 2 minutes because it was not obvious that dogs were...
