CHIBOO Bakery — Restaurant in Reston

For what little hidden meaning there is to gleen from the bakery name, there seems to be hidden skills begging to be noticed in the form of macarons. The delicate french confections can be temperamental to store and make in temperate/humid climates; what sets Chiboo macarons apart is the chew with crispy outer texture and soft chewy interior. The texture is my favorite.

Macarons can be imbued with flavors anyone can imagine. So it's nice to see some creative flavors like banana flambe and earl gray tea. And the ideal of sneaking a dollop in jam of the flavor in the macaron filling is really original. However, I do wish the flavors are more pronounced as I taste mostly just sugar. I think major potential is there and I hope to see more interesting flavors to come (oh.... say like real lychee, popcorn, sour plum, liquorice, apple, or...

I love supporting small solopreneurs and had high hopes for these after seeing a reel about a pop-up shop for them. The entrance is hard to find, but it is an opaque sliding door!

I eagerly bought a 12 pack and although the flavors were intriguing many of them didn’t really have any taste and were stale, where the texture seemed like they had been sitting out for a while after being frozen. I know there are sporadic hours, so I’d say maybe try again not on a Sunday close to close when they may not be fresh. The two that I felt had a true macron texture and soft chew was the lemon and chocolate strawberry. The rest were so flakey they were falling apart in every bite and the filling was almost a frosting for some. Not my typical macron or...

My husband and I ordered personalized macarons from CHIBOO as a treat for our recent wedding celebration. The cookies were DELICIOUS, and the personalized printing looked beautiful. The variety of flavors--like strawberry balsamic and Thai tea--was so exciting! We taste-tested a number of macarons, and CHIBOO's were far and away the best.

Chelsea is a joy to work with; she's kind and enthusiastic, and she offered a lot of valuable advice as we selected flavors and quantities. I would recommend CHIBOO for any special occasion (or simply a special personal treat)...
