First off, let me start with I have never been to a salon or better yet to a stylist that does not know how to properly treat and style different hair textures . Now on to my experience on 03/29/19. I came in with high expectations for this salon by word from my sisters. The stylist was very rude on contact.. She never greeted me as if she was excited to do my hair, better yet introduced herself. Which by the way gave me a gut feeling, that this experience is not going to be a pleasant one. Fast forward to her washing my hair.. I have a 4c hair texture which is the tightest hair grain of them all. I'm sure other women with this texture know that it takes time and care to detangle our hair . As she's half way washing she grabs a brush and RIPS through my hair. I asked her to be more easy due to the fact that our hair is soft and fragile. She then easies up. From there she deep conditions my hair and sets me under the dryer. Fast forwarding to the chair. I asked her to roller set my hair and you wouldn't believe her response..... She tells me that my hair is TOO THICK to roller set. I felt very OFFENDED. So then she goes to blow dry my hair straight with the top of my hair soaked and dripping wet. She never used any heat protector or anything. Then half way blow drying my hair she walks away .. So I go to feel if my roots are dry and to my "surprise" they're wet .I tell her and she assured me that she wasnt finished .From there she flat irons half way and wraps it .When I got home and unwrapped my hair it was a FRIZZY mess. I can say that I, nor anyone that I know in the RVA with beautiful black hair WILL NOT BE...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been to this salon several times over the last 5 years. Recently things have been not so good. One stylist did my hair pretty good, but tried to over charge me & I corrected her.. More recently, my Mother & i went again, & when we entered, there were stylists around, but no one greeted us. Some of them looked like they rolled their eyes, just a bad vibe. But what do you know, we both ended up with stylists with no personality!! I understand some of them can barely speak English, but they were not friendly at all!! I asked my stylish if she could trim my ends & she came up with a reason why she couldn't do it!! Unbelievable! I had to ask her to spray my hair at the end! & it didn't look that good.. My mothers stylist left her under the dryer so long, because she did another stylist hair & had started to shampoo another womans hair! I told my mother o no!!, you need to come from under the dryer & go sit in her chair & that's what my mother did & the stylist came over to take her rollers out. My mother said that she was taking them out real fast & seemed to be annoyed. I don't know what their problem is, but I'm ready to find a black salon... Not saying that I don't like Dominicans, those are my family in Christ, but I think black people can only do black folks hair, & I did find a black salon.. & that stylist told me that they were burning my hair & using too much heat at the dominican salon. I believe her, because my hair is all broke off on the top! My hair is fine & does not need a lot of heat! They love using a lot of heat! I'm glad I found this new place, although she is Jamaican, closer to...

I could not make it into my regular salon so I visited Marthaās on a Sunday. Iāve visited this salon twice in the past five years just for wash and blowout. Today will be my last time coming to Marthaās.
No one in the shop knows how to handle 4C hair. I was washed and deep conditioned. My hair is to the middle of my back and the woman who did my hair commented that I have a lot of hair so she knew she had some work to do.
I believe they slip relaxer or some chemical agent in their products simply by how my hair smelled after the wash. There wasnāt much detangling done after I sat under the dryer. I had to ask her to use the heat protectant in her stand before she blow dried by hair. During the blow dry, she apologized as she separated my hair (Iām pretty tender headed) and commented āthis is natural hair, Iām sorryā. I explained that Iāve had relaxed hair most of my life and since Iāve gone natural my hair has flourished.
After my blow dry she used a container labeled āshea butterā all over my hair. Iāve been getting my hair done in salons since I was 14 and have never seen someone use shea butter before applying heat to hair. She went through my hair again with flat iron. I requested that she curl it just so it was less heat (I.e. one pass per section). Even with one pass, the flat iron did not glide through my hair for each pass. She mentioned that she needed to cut my ends, but I told her my usual hair lady will.
My hair turned out weighed down and greasy as I expected with the shea butter. If you donāt know how to do black hair stop accepting...
