Northside Family YMCA — Local services in Richmond

I'm basing this as compared to three other YMCAs in this area.

The demographic skews inner-city.... I am only there to swim and have to constantly battle against throngs of screaming subsidized camp kids for an inch of pool. And I'm paying full fare. People like me subsidize the entire Y organization. We even have to pay an additional assessment annually.

Twice in the past few weeks kids threw up in the pool which had to be immediately closed.

I went to both the Goochland and Tuckahoe YMCA's religiously for 3 years, yet I never knew them to close the pool for thunder in the area. This is an indoor pool, not outdoor.

I have been 4 other Ys in the Richmond area. They are all far superior but unfortunately too far to drive on...

Located in a friendly neighborhood, filled with people who embody the strength that built it. This YMCA has awesome affordable programs, and serves as a communal space of support and encouragement. The staff are always so kind, the childcare group are reassuring and experienced, the trainers have great attention to detail, there’s almost always people playing basketball, and the laughs/joy of children can be heard around the facility. My family proudly supports YMCA and frequents this location. Northside Family YMCA is an anchor and hub for community activity in north RVA. This location is clean, well staffed, and well equipped. We appreciate the number of classes hosted here and the staff who do their best to help.

This location has a number of fantastic amenities: Basketball courts Daycare Outdoor picnic area Free weights and fully equipped gym Indoor pool Lockerooms with showers (they are fantastic)
