Whispering Winds — Local services in Rochester Hills

I do want to say that Joanne in the office and the maintenance staff I had met were all nice. However, the apartment wasn’t in good shape. The apartment had a horrible smell of the cheapest strong smelling paint when we moved in. The carpet was in bad condition as well and you could see the backing of it falling apart along the edges which caused exposed tack strips that I had to cover with a rug. There were obvious water leak marks around the toilets between the vinyl flooring and the tile underneath in both bathrooms. The unit we were in was “upgraded” but the craftsmanship was poor especially in the bathrooms with the patched walls, flooring and trim. There were also TONS of bugs. We were in a lower unit and there were days we would see 5-10 earwigs and/or pill-bugs inside.

We had maintenance come out to fix a broken dryer, washing machine, heater that made loud noise and wouldn’t turn on and leaky toilet- and we lived there only one year. Almost every time they came out, they had to come back a second time because even though they said it was fixed, it wasn’t. For example, the fin of the dryer broke off so they screwed it into the barrel of the dryer. Well then the screw was scraping on something really bad and wouldn’t turn all the way. But they must have not checked that it was fixed, just threw the screw in.

I moved there initially because it was all I could find in the short period of time I had to look. It appeared to hit a lot of the things I was looking for. When I got the keys and walked in, my heart sank but I didn’t have a choice and had to stay the year. It was a very unsettling experience and felt like living in a nasty hotel. I definitely would not recommend if you have children or asthma/allergies.

I should add that when I was moving out they had just hired a new head of maintenance and they were completing preventative maintenance checks. So hopefully they can do better and fix some...

I just moved in about a month ago and really love it here! Reading some of these reviews it sounds like the negative ones are from folks who have lived here years ago. My apartment is updated with brand new carpet, appliances, flooring, everything. My neighbors are quiet, friendly, and it seems like everyone respects each other's privacy. I did see in a post that someone mentioned you can hear everything and the walls are paper thin. I will hear my upstairs neighbor walking around a bit (it is an apartment, what do you expect?!), but I have never heard anyone on either side of me. Joann and Shelly have always been very nice and maintenance always comes out to fix anything in a timely manner- they even accommodate coming to fix things when my pup isn't home (just because I don't want him to bark once they enter and bother the neighbors!), so I always appreciate that they do this.

One of the main things that attracted me to Whispering Winds was the amount of space there is around my unit to play with my dog- we have an apartment way in the back and Thelma Spencer Park is literally a two minute walk! Not to mention the private doors and sliding back door makes it easy to let him out if it's ever late at night, or early in the morning. The people around us are usually really good about picking up after their pups too. The community is gated from 9:00PM-7:00AM so I always feel safe being there as well. I also saw someone mention that there are a lot of bugs- this is because the surrounding area is very woody. I sprayed the outside of my unit with an outdoor insect repellant and haven't had any issues since.

At the end of the day it all depends on what you are looking for in your home, but I'm glad that I made the decision to live here and hope to be here for...

I’ve been a resident of Whispering Winds going on 3yrs now. I love this apartment community. I’m a single person that has been an apartment dweller all my life, and no place is perfect but Whispering Winds comes close. The maintenance staff is outstanding and always performs repairs in a timely manner. The office staff always goes above and beyond to assist with any issues I may need. I was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and this winter they took extra care to keep my walkway clean so I could get to my medical appointments. They even offered to help feed my cat when I was hospitalized. I’ve never lived anywhere that I felt so “cared” for. They consistently go above and beyond. I live in a refurbished one bedroom unit. The only issue I’ve had is a battery replacement in a smoke detector. We are close to the freeway so in the summer there is some noise with the windows open but after awhile it’s like “white” noise and you get used to it. The neighbors are quiet and respectful.
