I had high hopes when shopping at Indian River Furniture, given its reputation as a high-end store, but my experience has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. We purchased several rooms worth of furniture in early October and the salesperson assured my family that the furniture would be delivered by December. Given the quality of the furniture (and the associated price tag), this guarantee played a big role in our decision to finalize the purchase. However, it turned out to be completely false. Not only was my furniture not delivered on time, but I later found out from customer service that the timeline given to me was unrealistic from the beginning. Further, we made repeat inquiries to status our order that transitioned a firm delivery date in December, to a potential date in mid-March. It felt like the salesperson was willing to say anything to close the sale, with no regard for the truth. While the store offered to make this right with a discount, we did not consider the discount sufficient given the dishonesty of the team at Indian River Furniture. I’ll also add that during this whole debacle, they held on to a large amount of our money.
When we initially expressed frustration and asked to cancel the order due to the delays, we were told that was not possible as it was a custom piece. Our "custom piece" was a sofa for sale from their recommended providers - at no point advertised as a custom build that could never be cancelled. We found this response to be incredibly inflexible and dismissive. Apparently, once the sale is made, there is no turning back—regardless of their failure to meet the promised delivery timeline. We were eventually permitted to cancel this order, when the store office manager noted that the piece was no longer in production despite being previously quoted a delivery date in the coming weeks.
Indian River Furniture may look luxurious on the surface, but my experience revealed a business that operates with dishonesty and poor customer service. I expected transparency and professionalism from a store of this caliber, but instead, I was met with broken promises, endless delays, and a refusal to take accountability. They simply blame the manufacturers that they previously recommended, and offer little to no support when expectations are not met. If you’re considering purchasing from Indian River Furniture, I strongly advise you to think twice. Unless you're okay with being misled and left in the dark about your order, look elsewhere. We recently bought a home in Melbourne. My wife was so excited with the beautiful furniture when she walked into Indian River Furniture. The sales rep that worked with her, Lael, was very attentive as she placed orders for bedroom, dining and living room furniture. We were told it would be about 3 weeks for the bedroom and dining room and much longer for the living room upholstered items.
We are only in FL part time, so before we returned about a month later my wife called Lael and left a message without a response. Then sent her a text (Lael has suggested that option initially) on Aug 3rd, no response. Again another text Aug 6, no response. Another call and message to the store on Aug 8, no response. I called the store on Aug 10 and left a message, no response. So after we arrived she went to the store and met with the General Manager, Jeremy.
The GM never apologized for lack of response but did look up our order and let us know the table was available. He said he would try to get it on the truck delivered the next day and would call with an update on the other furniture. SURPRISE – not only was it not delivered we have never heard from him again. My wife was thrilled that he took a sincere interest in our problem and helped to resolve it. Thanks Mr. Lilly, you certainly brought us back as customers and reaffirmed our confidence in your store. We have purchased quite a bit of furniture over the years from Indian River Furniture and have been quite pleased. We have also referred many friends and family members to the store. Alicia is a great sales person. Unfortunately, we recently had a concern over a previous purchase and my wife went to the store and spoke with a manager, Jeremy. She expressed her disappointment with the quality of the product. Because the product was purchased several years ago, we did not expect a refund or any compensation. Our only hope was that we could point out our disappointment and receive some suggestions on possible repair. The attitude we received from Jeremy was “I don’t care and why are you bothering me with this?”. No hint of concern our apology. He also offered absolutely no assistance to my wife in carrying the furniture back out to her car. We are not the type of people to typically complain, but this was so disappointing.
