Trader Toms — Local services in Roseburg

I thought about rating this 5 stars and starting my review with

"This should actually be 2 stars but it's not fair to lose a great local business because of the attitude and ineptitude of the owners child.''

Then I thought, is that really doing the business any justice or helping in any way? Any diligent consumer and discerning business owner is going to look at the lowest ratings. Nobody looks at the 5 stars to make their final decision. The only way a store can know what their customer base is thinking is if they say what they think on online reviews. It's an amazing tool if used properly.

With that said...

Ripped off once shame on you, ripped off twice shame on me, ripped off three times and I write a review. If it weren't for Tom's daughter going to lunch I would have been ripped off a third time. This 2 star rating is not only for the intent of swindling me a third time but for treating me like a begger for being forced to haggle. The daughter's 'no budge' attitude to price haggling leads you to believe the prices are coming from her and her lack of product knowledge. Or they're simply hoping their customers don't know the true value of their merchandise and they'll get lucky on some unwitting consumer like myself. Why would I say these things? The last two times I purchased merchandise their I got home and realized I paid above full boxed retail for dirty used items.

This time I was prepared....

I'm typically not a haggler. I usually just pay the asking price no questions asked. However, I read up on dealing with pawn/barter shops. Price is always negotiable and everything has a high markup even though it's used and otherwise disgarded by it's previous owner for some reason or another. Everytime I go in there the daughter feeds me painfully obvious 'gold chained, hairy chested used car salesmen' chicanery. Unfortunately the first two times I fell for it. Not this time. I went in with the goal of trading two pairs of speakers for one of theirs. I pointed out that both of my pairs were brand new in box and they were worth $20 each. The pair I was wanting to aquire was 11 years old and marked at $35 but sold used online no higher than $19.99. Sounds like a no-brainer. Amazingly she comes up with some smoke screen of stuttered lies to describe how I wasn't getting it unless I gave her $10.00 cash. She actually made me drive down the road to get the $10. Well I knew Tom was going to eat his lunch first and then she was going to eat hers. So I left and took just enough time so that when when I got back she was at lunch. Tom let me have them for $5.

Still, you have to wonder... Why was she so adamant on that $10? Was it in the best interest of retaining current business and gaining future business. Would I be likely to walk away satisfied if I didn't get even a $5 break? Regardless, If she didn't go to lunch this would be a very different review.

2 stars for friendliness 1 star for ease of transaction 2 stars for product knowledge 3 stars for customer retention

Bottom line, most everything is over priced and in the same condition left by previous owner. The speakers needed a thorough cleaning and looked 11 years old. I was told three lies about the product in efforts to make the sale. If you're dealing with Tom you're more likely to leave not feeling like you just got mugged and spat on. Know the value of.what you're buying and what you're selling. There are both good deals and bad deals in this store. It is definitely a business Roseburg can't...

Let me say first and foremost: Trader Tom’s should be everyone’s first “go-to” for all your second hand, head shop, and unique gift giving needs. They have top quality, like new condition items at unbeatable prices and are more than fair when it comes to making deals. From personal experience, he gave me $10 above what I was expecting for an item I brought in. I couldn’t have been happier. They also have a huge selection of new items that are guaranteed to satisfy anyone’s unique, one of a kind niche. There’s just too much to list here, you have to go in and see for yourself. You’ll be greeted by some of the nicest people here in the ‘Burg and trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Try and say that about the “other secondhand store” in town.....

Trader tom is well to put it nicely a very disgusting human who has nothing better to do but belittle and berate two homeless people who are doing nothing but trying to sleep in their vehicle and accuse them of using drugs and told him that they were not allowed on his property or his parking lot which he owns last time I checked this was America and you could park wherever you wanted to specially if the city owned it I pay my taxes I can park where the hell I want to Tom go look in the mirror and stop drinking so much you smell like a brewery and it shows I will never purchase anything from that store ever again or sell anything to that store ever again as much as I do not like associated buyers I will do business with them to all my followers I would hope that you would do the same as tell your time does not have your interests at heart he is a rotten no good dirty person who only cares about money grow up Tom...
