If you are a complete geek like myself, and opt to use legacy equipment out of a pure drive for nostalgia, you will realize first-hand that older equipment requires very specific maintenance to stay running. Such was the case with my Philips CCB194AT31 CRT TV/VCR combo unit (made in the year 2000.) Back in 2018, the VCR carriage encountered an issue; in which a user would request to eject a tape, and the VCR would still think the cassette was inside the mechanism. As such, the entire TV set would promptly shut down seconds later. I was afraid I would be stuck with this issue for the remainder of the life-span of the unit, and for years, I had to mitigate the usage of the whole set around this problem. But now, I finally decided to take the set down to Dyna-Tech, and see if they were still willing to service these legacy units. And, to my surprise (and relief!), these guys will still service it all, both retro and modern. Kyle and Harry boast decades of experience behind the name of their business, and it shows in every way! Kyle was extremely friendly, polite, and attentive as I explained my situation, and right off the bat, he knew just what to do to fix the VCR carriage right up. He cleaned up the mode selection switch, the infrared prisms (which see clear leads in the tape reels, and communicate to photo diodes when a cassette has reached a beginning or end point), and gave everything a much-needed lubrication and spit-shine, both inside and out. I was expecting the repair to take at least a week or two to complete; however, to my shock, they gave me a call the very next day, informing me that the set was already available for pick up! The pricing was very fair, the communication, speed, and overall pure commitment could not be beat, and it felt amazing to give a legacy machine a new life. I cannot express enough how grateful I am that these guys still give some TLC to these retro devices, even decades later. If you ever need any small home appliance fixed, be it legacy or modern, I highly recommend you swing by this place. Trust me, you will be extremely glad you did!

Very happy with their work, The technicians were very informative on the work they will need to have done, there was no waiting list compared to the other vintage electronic repair shops in Sacramento. This shop maintenance and repaired my 1970s pioneer stereo receiver model SX-950 serviced, for the first time out of 20 years of owning the stereo. I was nervous about bringing it in at first. I purchase the stereo when I was 19 years old, and now I'm age 41, It's somewhat sentimental. The technicians were very personable and understood the sentimental value. They even helped me carry the stereo in, they replaced all the parts with the original new parts, they repair my stereo fairly quickly after the parts were ordered, It took them less than a week to repair it after the parts came in, which is really good waiting time for a vintage stereo repair and maintenance. They were really good they cleaned out my stereo internally from dust, and externally. I was so impressed by the shop, they they inform me they repair the smaller vintage televisions from the '80s and '90s that gamers like to game on. Check out my media attached to this review to see the great results of their work.

I Googled electronic repair in Sacramento and found Dyna-Tech to have good reviews. I wanted to have my 4 ch MB Quart amplifier fixed because the cross over slide switches were gritty and not working properly so none of the channels worked right. I explained to Harry and he told me he could replace them. Although after I had brought it in he tried to get new parts but they were not available. So Harry told me he could unsolder them and take them apart to thoroughly clean and re-lubricate them instead. It was a pretty quick turnaround and I reinstalled the board they were on in my amp and hooked everything up. Wha-Bam! All channels working flawlessly! Thanks Harry for making this kind of repair on my switches and saving me money to have to buy a whole brand new amp when the one I really like and works well just needed some minor repairs.

I went here hoping to get my subwoofer repaired at a reasonable price. When they called back with an estimate they apparently looked up that they go for over $1,000 new now because he mentions this.

So the estimate if for $300 which I bought mine for $150 used and got some use out of it before it blew something in the electrical portion of it.

I ended up buying another used subwoofer for $50 and it works great. The guy I bought it from also gave me a nice Onkyo receiver for free since he was on his move out day from his home and didn’t want to take with him.

I sold the damaged one for $50 which was I paid the shop to diagnose it. I don’t know if the guy was going to try to repair it himself or use the sub in his car.

So, unless it’s a rare collectible I see no reason to ever get anything repaired as much as I hate to see anything needlessly go to trash dumps.

The low rating is I felt that he could have warned me that nothing gets fixed for less than a couple hundred bucks and I would have politely declined.

I felt this is how they maintain luring people in to get at least the $50 diagnosing fee which I do believe they’re entitled to get some money for their time.

Oh well, live and learn.

Now I know.

AND

For you all out there, you’ve been warned.

There’s lots of great used electronics out there.

Never again.

Just throw it out and buy your next replacement...
