Extra Space Storage — Local services in San Antonio

We just recently did a long distance move to TX. Not knowing this area too well we went with this storage facility because of the reviews. The process to sign up for a unit to putting the lock on our unit went smoothly that we didn’t even have to go to the office. I did not think that the unit would be big enough for our belongings so I went into the office and was greeted by Sammi. The office was so welcoming with baskets of snacks on the counter. I spoke to her regarding my concerns about needing more space. At that time my husband was pulling in with the Uhaul. She said if that is your Uhaul, you will have enough room. I appreciated her honesty because she could have not and we would have just signed gotten bigger one costing more $$. In the end, she was right on. Everything fit!! However, because we are using it long term, I wanted more space to be able to ‘see’ everything. She gave us a few scenarios and helped us get the best deal that we could get for a unit 1 size bigger all the while multitasking between calls and other acknowledging other customers that needed her help. She also offered us each a bottle of cold water which we gladly received on a hot TX day of moving. In the end of our transaction I asked her for her name and she said her name was Sammi. She’s the Sammi that all the reviewers raved about!! As far as the facilities, it seems as safe as you can hope. Upon signing up you receive a unique number to enter the gated facility. You use the same number to activate the automatic doors and you need to re-enter the number with each entry to the bldg. There are a few flat bed carts available to use for easy transport from your vehicle to the unit, vise versa. There are big elevators that go to the other floors. The facility was clean and climate controlled. Overall great...

Reserved very late night online after reading many high reviews for this location. The following day Troy contacted me but I was unable to take the call. Two days later I showed up at the location and he remembers...WOW! The service here is personal and you're not just another number. There were other clients being serviced so I waited my turn. Troy started the process and Juan took over. Received the same level of service as the others before me. Juan took the time to explain things in detail, as this was the first time using a storage facility, as well as this is my first G review. The facility is very clean and climate controlled. I was fortunate to get a space on the first floor, so my ease of access is sweet. Be aware that there is an admin charge as well as a lock charge,,,, no padlocks used here, you may be able to use an existing lock from another facility...but no guarantee. I was unaware ...ignorant,,,, as this is my first time ,,,so I wasn't expecting additional charges. However I received the 1st month free on special at the time...so it ended up being a sweet deal all around. Juan and Troy made the whole experience very personal and friendly... I definitely recommend this location for your storage needs. Two thumbs up and two big toes.

I’ve been renting a unit here for over a year, and the complete lack of communication and accountability from this facility is unacceptable. There have been multiple break-ins, and recently I learned, not from management, but from another tenant that there was a major incident where thieves broke into units from floor to floor. Management never notified tenants. No emails. No calls. Nothing.

To make matters worse, this facility is right next to a homeless camp, barely 200 feet from the door. That’s a huge security risk, yet instead of taking meaningful action, they installed one security camera which doesn’t even cover the side where the break-in likely occurred. There are zero cameras inside the building, meaning anything can happen to your belongings and you’ll have no way of knowing or proving it.

When I first moved in, I noticed that the front doors stayed open until someone entered their code at the gate, essentially letting anyone who hops the fence walk right in. It’s a security nightmare.

The silence from management and corporate is not just negligent, it’s downright reckless. I no longer feel that my belongings are safe here, and I will be moving my things to a facility that actually prioritizes security and...
