My friend and I were there during Holy week in April 2022, and I want to say thank you to Maryjane for welcoming my friend and I that night. As we were leaving the church, the Father was coming in, and I had to say he's such a blessing. Thank you, Father, for your blessings before, and after we left the church, I know you're not there anymore, but it's okay. I'm happy to say my husband and I have now become a parishioner of Holy Name Catholic Church. We are very happy to be part of this church. Thank you, Jesus.
1 year later--- We have left and gone back to our original church. Too much money is asked from us. The parishioners were not as friendly as they seemed at the beginning. The office lady in long hair was rude, I understand that we have to give our tithes to the church, but not everyone always gives n it's sad when you don't give and they give you the look. Well I'm sorry but not everybody has a lot of money. Now I know why the church is so nice and popular it's all about money, that's why the school is still open. What's more sad is that they talk bad about Father if he wants to give money to his family in Mexico. Let it be... he's allowed to do that, and this goes to all the ladies in the office who enjoy...
Read moreI will rate it 0, I live in the neighborhood and I always jog and walk my dog around the neighborhood it is nice and quiet also walking by the church the people are nice, till today walking my dog, a man walking with his dogs said to me I could not walk by there because he owned the property of the church the school the parking lot, the baseball field, the sidewalk and told me I could not walk there. I felt confused as to why he was telling me this, and he was telling me that the area was private property and could not be around that area, where people were always jogging and walking their dogs and children playing. I went home and looked up that a pastor does not own the church the denomination does, I don't know if he was the real pastor of Holy Name on Nash Blvd, but to be yelling at someone while walking their dogs, I felt discriminated and sadden as well confused about why I was being talked to this way, and I wasn't doing anything but walking my dog. Just because one is the pastor, he is not God, they are still Human, and I hope this man reflects and is aware of his own behavior and preaches what he...
Read moreIt’s deeply disheartening that even within a sacred space like Holy Name, racism and discrimination can still be felt. Whether you’re from Mexico , El Salvador, Honduras , Philippines or any other background, there’s a noticeable sense of division that shouldn’t exist in a place meant for unity and love. During Mass, especially the first and last ; you can feel the difference — the way some people choose not to sit near you, or even move away because of your skin color. That kind of silent exclusion is painful and uncomfortable, especially in a house of God.
That said, I want to sincerely recognize Deacon Phillip. His presence, compassion, and leadership have made a meaningful difference in the church. He embodies the values that every faith community should strive for — inclusion, respect, and love for all. I know the issue isn’t just with the congregation, but with some individuals in more prominent roles whom I haven’t named here.
Outside of that, the atmosphere still reflects those divisions, and it’s something that needs to be acknowledged and addressed if the church truly wants to reflect...
