Oak Hill Event Center — Local services in San Benito

We hosted our wedding reception at Oak Hill in February. Oak Hill offers competitive event packages, but we were looking to add our own special touches and were allowed to bring in outside vendors for catering, decor and entertainment. Do note for any beverages, they require the use of their bar, but did allow us to put special parameters around the service/menu and we were very happy with how the bar service turned out! Ms. Alba in the main office was so helpful and took the time to answer our questions as we coordinated the event. The bartenders were awesome, and we appreciated the service they provided to our guests. The venue was spacious, provided heaters for the colder weather and had plenty of parking. We got some beautiful photos on the grounds, and the lights in the trees were perfect for when it got dark. We leaned into the style of the venue, going for more of a Spanish hacienda vibe with the decor, and it really highlighted how unique and pretty Oak Hill is! It is worth exploring this venue and their offerings if you are looking for a large, outdoor, hacienda style event space in the Harlingen/San Benito area that is competitively priced...

This was the worst experience I've ever had dealing with a rental venue. We used the venue to celebrate a family birthday. An employee shut down the kitchen at 8 pm and locked us out. She would not let us serve our guest who were coming in late. She had no explanation other than those were the rules. We provided the food ourselves and did the serving. I don't understand what was her issue since we still had the venue for 4 more hours. They ran out of toilet paper in the restrooms and would not refill them and there was no hot water in the kitchen to wash dishes.The employee, who mentions that she is the daughter-in-law of the owners, had a very bad additude and was rude to guests. While cleaning the kitchen, she barged in and removed beverages from guests that were cleaning and discarded of them even though they were purchased from the bar. The location and venue is very nice but the service was not worth it. The DJ refused to interact with the guests or announce the bridal party for the presentation. Beware because cake cutting is not included in an already pricy package. The venue does not allow BYOB. When choosing menu, we agreed to “Monterrey Chicken” that would include cheese & avocado.
