The Spa at Torrey Pines – A Scam Disguised as a Luxury Experience
If I could leave zero stars, I would. This place is a total ripoff. I expected a world-class massage, some level of customer service, and an actual relaxing atmosphere. What I got instead was an absolute disaster from start to finish.
Facilities – More Like a Cheap Hotel Than a Luxury Spa
The robe was tiny—barely fit, totally uncomfortable. It felt like I was wearing a child’s bathrobe.
The dry sauna wasn’t hot at all. There were four people inside wearing full robes, totally unbothered. If a sauna isn’t hot enough to make you sweat, it’s just a sad, wood-paneled room.
The wet sauna was fine, but when I came out, my slippers were gone. Walking barefoot through a spa that costs $$$$ for a massage? Unacceptable.
The Massage – A Joke
My massage therapist immediately tried to upsell me. If I wanted a sales pitch, I’d go to a used car lot.
I explained that I have hip and knee pain—real tension issues. What did she say? “You didn’t pay for that. You only get a light, relaxing massage.” EXCUSE ME? $$$$ FOR A LIGHT MASSAGE??
What I got wasn’t a massage—it was an oily rubdown that did absolutely nothing. No pressure, no technique, and nothing remotely therapeutic.
When I told her I needed deeper pressure, she just said, “Try to relax.” Oh, I would love to relax, except this place is robbing me blind.
By the end, I was drenched in oil like some kind of rotisserie chicken. I had to shower immediately because I felt disgusting.
Customer Service – Or Lack Thereof
I told the front desk how awful the experience was, and they said? “There’s nothing we can do. You have to leave a review on TripAdvisor.”
No refund, no apology, NOTHING. They don’t care because they already have your money.
Atmosphere – You Call This Relaxing?
After my horrible massage, my friend and I went to have a drink on the porch.
Instead of peace and quiet, we got screaming kids running wild, coughing on everything.
Nothing says luxury spa like a toddler shrieking at the top of their lungs while you’re trying to unwind.
Final Verdict – Don’t Waste Your Money
For the price, I expected a premium experience, not a bare-minimum, zero-effort spa day. I’ve had better massages at random Thai places.
This place sucks. Save your money. Go...
Read moreThis Spa is so elegant and everything you want from a spa day. The check in staff was friendly and welcoming. They offer you robes and sandals. Great products for hair and face for after shower.
The sauna is clean and very hot! It’s perfect. The steam room was a little run down, that is my only complaint. They had ice towels for you to use if needed.
The lounge area was very cozy, warm, a little fireplace burning, blankets and had great tea selection and some fruit options.
The reason I’m giving this place 5 stars is for the massage therapist Jackie! She was amazing. She was friendly and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. She asked if I had any problem areas and she addressed them in the massage. Her massage was relaxing and therapeutic.
I’ve been to the lodge for their food many times and it’s also 5 stars! Love this place, great ambience and...
Read moreThe Spa at Torrey Pines is a nice place to get a spa day in San Diego. If you’re getting a massage or facial, I definitely recommend showing up early and spending time in the sauna and steam room first - it really helps your body relax and makes the massage feel even better.
I appreciate the cleanliness of the spa, the nice robes, towels and slippers. The sauna is not warm enough to my taste and the interior and decor of the hotel is not my cup of tea, but I visited the spa twice and had a pleasant and relaxing experience both times.
Jeff gave me an amazing massage, I highly recommend his services.
What’s nice is that if you’re getting a service, you can stay and enjoy the pool, jacuzzi, and the views of the golf course. It feels peaceful and elevated, but not over-the-top. Just a beautiful, relaxing day with great staff and...
