Twin Oaks Golf Course has made a real resurgence in the last 2 or 3 years. The greens are in incredible shape, and the fairways in many areas are lush and green, with a few patches of dead and muddy ground. Still, this course is an incredible value when you play twilight for $30 w/ a cart.
The putting green is a bit patchy around it, and it could use a larger area with more undulation to it.
I did not have the opportunity to use the driving range.
So why am I rating it a 1 star? In truth, if that was the whole story, I would have rated this somewhere between 3 and 4. However, the day I went there was a Junior Golf event happening. We showed up about 15min before our tee time only to find out they were "running a bit behind". Hmm, would be pushing it to finish before dark, but maybe we could get 16 holes in? Ended up teeing off almost 40 min after our scheduled tee time. Brutal but could still get 14 holes in? Not a chance. Every shot we had to wait 5-10 min. At the 8th hole the group in front of us decided to cut across and play holes 4-6 again. We figured this would be great and we would be moving faster, only to find that we ended up waiting behind 2 foursomes on #9 tee box. By the time we tee'd off the GPS in the cart said we had an elapsed 2:45min and were 45min behind pace.
The course was painfully slow. We would often pull up to a tee where the foursome 2 groups ahead was just getting ready to tee off.
I was kind of livid and disappointed. It felt like a waste of my time. I went into the pro shop to ask about this and was told they had 80 juniors on the course. I am not sure I see the relevance of that. If they had that many people, why were they selling tee times? Why not just shut the course down? Why not have a marshal to encourage the juniors to play faster? If I had known the pace of play was going to be that slow, I would have booked a time elsewhere.
The person at the pro shop offered me a voucher for 9 holes. I said no thanks, I wouldn't be using it. I have no intention of going back to this course. Spending 3 hours to play 9 holes is absurd, and they are doing those juniors a disservice allowing them to play that slowly. I can walk 18 holes at my home course (~7k yards) in 3 hours. Twin Oaks showed a lack of appreciation for my time, and my time is very valuable to me. What's worse is they didn't really make an effort to...
Read moreReading and understanding reviews can be challenging however, I hope this is insightful. I’m a single digit index and love the game. Twin Oaks is a great facility. The layout of the course is challenging for all levels. I teed off at 7am and it was a bit foggy. The first four holes are very challenging from every tee box and especially the back tees. The holes are narrow and not conducive to the hook or slice golfer. These first holes are designed for strategic shot making. After the first 4 holes the course opens up a bit. The course is designed to challenge your course management. Course conditions where quality. Fairways and greens early in the morning are soft. Fairways didn’t have any rollout do to condensation from dew and early hydration from maintenance crew. Greens are postage stamp(small) and definitely undulating which will force you to read your putts. Greens were fairly slow do to the moisture . If you flight your approach, the ball will stick as the greens at the time I played were soft and spongy. I’m hoping they firmed up after the 10am hour. The food is not your average golf course food, it supersedes many Resturaunt’s! The entire staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Range is great for our needs of warming up. My overall opinion is, this track is short but packs a punch if you are not willing to submit to course management aka smart golf and for long ball hitters your egos will be handed to you as there are many surprises awaiting your long drives however , with risks there are rewards. Played 6/18/2021 and weather was outstanding. Great deals for any So Cal residents and green fees are definitely fair market value for...
Read morePlayed for the first time at this course a couple of days ago. Generally the course was in good condition. I played well and was happy with my score. I purchased range balls to warm up but didn’t need them bc person I played with shared balls they had. When I tried to use the ball code a couple days later, it wouldn’t work and was told the code was only good for that day. When I tried to explain my situation and get a comp bucket the attendant in the pro shop was very unempathetic and refused to comp me a bucket of balls. I explained it wss my first time their and would appreciate if he could make allowance but he refused until I told him to forget it and would never golf there again. By this time two other staff members in the pro shop were watching and causing a very uncomfortable situation. In the end the fellow did offer a comp med bucket, but I felt that the whole situation was completely unnecessary. I explained I had just spent $800 over the last two months as a JC Member and to give me a bad taste in the mouth over a $10 bucket of balls was unacceptable. I suggest better trainer for the pro shop staff and to remember the number sales rule, “The customer is always right”. Having been in sales for 40 years, I can say I have earnestly strove to help the customer feel successful in our interactions. This situation I went through did not. Advice to other golfers, if you can’t use the range ball token that day, see the pro shop about a refund or a...
