In my opinion, one of the signs of a truly great golf course is, the more you play it, the more you have an appreciation for how great the course really is. I've played Pasa between 10-15 times and each time I gain a new appreciation for the golf course. It is solidly in my top 5-10 courses that I've ever played, and that includes many major championship and PGA Tour venues. This course is right up there. The golf course architecture stands the test of time - it's only 6500 yards, but it plays longer than that. It has one of the longest Par 3's (3rd hole) and longest Par 4's under 400 yards (11th hole) that I've ever played. But the green complexes are what really stands out about the course. Each one is unique and are memorable. Add to that great bunkering, a great layout, AND most importantly, the fact that it's a public course - it's really one of the golfing gems in the United States. Alister Mackenzie is mostly known for his work at Augusta National - but the fact that Pasatiempo helped inspire Augusta's architecture (I've been to Augusta, and I notice the influence), really gives it something extra that no other golf course can claim. It's a challenge from the 1st tee shot all the way through navigating the 18th green. I'd highly recommend Pasatiempo to any golfer looking for a unique golfing experience - I always look forward to coming back here! 5 star course,...
Read moreA phenomenally well manicured and exceptionally thoughtful Alistair McKenzie contoured layout has stood the test of time and mega talents. The greens roll very true. And boasting a deceptively wonderful slope of 143. The semi-private Santa Cruz, California golf club boasts classy, diligent golf professionals and staff.
The pro shop is fabulous with many items of great interest, like the MacDonald/MacKenzie custom made bags, Pasatiempo golf bags, pullovers and west coast style clothing to make you the envy of club members back home.
Just one more indication of the outstanding national appeal of Pasatiempo - i noted the surge of out of town memberships, an offering on hold presently on hold due to the enthusiastic response to the initial offering.
From top (Ken Woods, Head PGA Professional) to bottom (Alex - Seascape High golfer/Cart person) each employee enhances the classiness of this timeless Alistair McKenzie club.
No visit to the north of Monterey Pennisula is complete without a round here. Be sure to plan ahead, as there is no twilight fee, and tournaments and club events are sprinkled liberally throughout the year.
Be sure to visit the Grille which showcases many Alistair MacKenzie historical artifacts and...
Read moreVery nice course with helpful members around the course for first-timers. Course is well laid out but nothing amazing. No ocean view holes (except for very partial views of the ocean from a great distance) but the big surprise was the cost. At $365 +$35 booking fee (for just signing up online) it is not a good value. This price is in the ballpark of Pebble Beach, Kapalua, and many other famous and outstanding courses but the quality of the experience was just not there. At that price, I would expect to at least have a water bottle or two around the course but no amenities like that were provided. At a third of the cost, it would be worthy of its price but at $400, I felt like the value and experience were just not there. It’s a very nice course with fair play and well maintained greens but I could say that about many courses charging less than half the cost of Pasatiempo. For me, I would pass and spend my golf time and...
