I ordered six living room pieces in hard maple wood from DutchCrafters and engaged in caring communication with DutchCrafters customer service throughout the process, beginning with Ryan Topp.
Two months after ordering, I was informed that my sole upholstery fabric choice had been discontinued; Christeen Jorno was extremely helpful in honoring my request to shop and ship from another fabric company and, ultimately, my DutchCrafters upholsterer did an outstanding job on my cushions.
Five months after ordering, my coffee table and side table were terribly damaged in transit, returned in the same truck, and rebuilt beautifully, then redelivered. Transport nicks in one splendid club chair and my gorgeous sofa from that same shipment are currently being carefully repaired by DutchCrafters outside my home.
My (by far, most expensive) bookcase was also initially half-delivered at that time with a broken glass door and other glaring cracks and errors, then very poorly rebuilt from scratch and redelivered a few months later, with the builder having blatantly ignored specific requests (and, haphazardly, not even lining up or centering basic elements). Lafe Bianche and Billy Adams were so wonderfully kind and accommodating in acknowledging its overall unacceptable quality and condition and in helping me choose an entirely new bookcase (created by a different builder) to replace the substandard piece; I look forward to receiving that in a few months. (I advise that my first bookcase be removed from the website.)
I understand that it is a challenge to work with craftsmen with whom one has no direct contact and to custom-order furniture sight-unseen; for the most part, this has worked out fairly well.
Yet, shockingly, despite paying for white glove delivery along with an assured promise to pad and wrap every piece, by some fluke in my original delivery, none of my six pieces were wrapped or padded by the independent transport company. Hence the inevitable yet entirely preventable damage. DutchCrafters has been lovely about rectifying this. I remain hopeful that my three outstanding pieces will be delivered in perfect condition.
If you are particular about your pricey custom furniture (and if you want it to last a lifetime), prepare to be patient throughout the building and...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and I ordered six dining room chairs in August 2024. We inquired about the production timeline because we were planning to host Thanksgiving at our house and wanted to be sure the chairs arrived in time. We were assured they would. We ordered a dining room table, two chairs, buffet and china cabinet from Shipshewana Furniture Company on the same day that arrived the first week of November 2024. Shortly before Thanksgiving, we received an email notification informing us of a delay with a new projected delivery date scheduled for sometime in December 2024. I called customer service and was told that the delay was due to the hurricane that hit the Tampa area in Florida, even though the chairs were being built in Ohio and would be delivered to Michigan. We received three more email notifications between December 2024 - February 2025 informing us of a continued delay with a new delivery date set for April 2025. Having zero confidence that the chairs would arrive, I called and asked to cancel the order and requested a full refund. The refund was not issued until nearly two weeks after the request was made and required several follow up phone calls. We finally received a paper check in the mail and deposited it on the same day we received it. Our financial institution placed a 14 business day hold on the check because there was concern the check would bounce. I called to speak to the accounting department several times and asked for the CEO of this awful company to call me with an explanation, which was never received. Recently, my husband and I placed a new order for the same exact chairs we never received from Dutch Crafters with Shipshewana Furniture Company. The chairs were sold to us for half the cost Dutch Crafters charged us for and were built by the same exact builder in Ohio and are scheduled to be delivered in the next two weeks. We learned that Dutch Crafters is having a hard time paying their bills to builders and shipping contractors. If you’re looking for Amish furniture, I would recommend Shipshewana Furniture Company. They have provided us exceptional customer service and have been honest and responsive, which is the exact opposite of our experience with...
Read moreFor Years I had searched For years I had searched for a corner entertainment center to replace our old rectangular pine cupboard we had “cornered” in our den to hold the 37 inch TV. I looked at all the major furniture manufacturers and found nothing that fit with my colonial home look or was big enough. Finally, I stumbled upon the DutchCrafters website. They had a wide selection of styles and sizes. Better yet, you could choose your wood, finish, and hardware along with numerous other add-ons. I chose the Amish Enchant Mission Corner Entertainment Center. It had the largest opening for a tv as it holds a 55 inch flat screen which is perfect for our 16 by 14 den. I chose cherry with a chestnut satin finish, soft close drawers, standard slide doors and gold and satin brass finish hardware, along with inside delivery and set up. Once I placed my order, I was contacted by phone and email by my special representative who explained the entire process (it takes up to 3 months as the pieces are handmade to order) and answered all my questions. He stayed in touch throughout. I was notified by Gordon (representative) that my piece was finished and a delivery date and time was set up. The delivery driver contacted me directly and made sure of the address details. They arrived exactly on time and within minutes they had my spectacular entertainment center expertly set up and in place. I could not have imagined a more beautiful or perfect piece of furniture. The wood and workmanship is breathtaking. The finish is as smooth as a babies skin and the look is pure elegance. The doors and drawers glide effortlessly. The design of this piece also gives a subtle look of curve which is very pleasing. The top is a fully finished piece of cherry, no false top hiding behind a piece of crown molding as most others. And if you think the price is too high, I challenge you to find anything to compare at this price. Thank you DutchCrafters for giving me a bucket list piece of heirloom furniture of great beauty at a wonderful price with a...
