Potter Country Store — Local services in Schulenburg

We used to never go to Houston without a stop at Potter Pecan. No more. We didn't go that way for several years and in the interim they seem to have changed chocolate suppliers. I don't mind paying the premium for a great tasting treat. I object to stale tasting chocolate with the white bloom of old chocolate. It was even evident on the dark chocolate. This used to be a stop for great chocolate covered pecans. The chocolate now tastes like the cheap stuff from the dollar store. So not worth the prices they charge. I guess the days of stopping for a treat are over. We will find a new treat for out rare trips that way. What a shame that they went cheap on their chocolate to make a few extra bucks.

Edit: The quality of the chocolate is just not what it was. I am well aware of blooming, but this was kept under AC from the the time I purchased it. For the Dark to have bloom to me is concerning. It is enough that in 3 weeks we still have a good bit of it left. this is a treat that rarely made it home from a trip to Houston. Now it is in San Antonio and not being eaten. That is a big difference. Sorry your new vendor is giving you...

Store is filled with all sorts of items. But the seasoned Pecans are where its at..

This place has so many varieties of pecans its amazing, and they are all available to sample which is somewhat of a rarity for small places like this. Hot, sweet, candied, powdered, they have it all.

But its not just pecans here, they offer tons of other Texas made items, soaps, fudge, hot sauces, and craft items. Its a great place to go gift shopping during the holiday season.

I will be returning here for more Pecans.. A few of them I tried were amazing, and the bag I bought only lasted 2 or 3...

Go. Go now. You won’t be disappointed. This shop is adorable, and so well-stocked with an excellent variety of gifts, treats, and essentials. I’m traveling, and was able to get some fun travel sized bath products in addition to my first Consuela bags! The fudge is velvety and delicious. The pecans are worth the hype. Such nice employees too who were so very patient with an extremely challenging family. A highlight of my time here...
