Stopped here too try out what we thought was "smokehouse bbq" but we were severely disappointed. If the service was better than the food we wouldn't have been as disappointed, but both were extremely lacking. When we walked in, the hostesses were more interested in gossiping with each other than seating guests. Our hostess pretty much dumped us at our table and walked away. We sat there and waited, and about 5 min in, a very seemingly annoyed waitress came up and said " have yall been helped because if not I guess I'll serve yall." I answered politely that "No, we haven't been helped yet." I was put off by her attitude, but given that we had been driving with two hungry kiddos and still had a long drive ahead of us, we decided to stay since there wasn't much around in the way of "sit down " food. She walked off to drop something at another table and came back and rudely asked, "did yall know what yall want to drink." Again we hadn't been rude to her so I just couldn't understand why she was acting annoyed with us. We put in our drink orders and she brought them in a timely manner. She then asked, again rudely, " do yall know what yall want." We ordered and she disappeared. Our food didn't come out for over 35 min and in that time our waitress never once came to check on us. When our food finally came out, she dropped it off and again disappeared. The food was mediocre. The kids meals was just ok, nothing great. My potato with chopped beef was undercooked and the beef was just smothered in bbq sauce, nothing special. My husband's chicken fried chicken had no flavor, which led to our next issue. We sat there waiting for the waitress to show up so we could ask for some hot sauce or jalapenos for him to add to his food, but again she disappeared and never checked on us. He finally had to get up to go find someone who could help us. He found another waitress and asked if she could get some for him and she replied "you need to ask your own waitress." By this point he was done with the lack of help and had to go ask it for himself in the back. This caused our waitress to pop up and ask if we needed anything. My husband, annoyed by this point, answered "no I did your job for you." She didn't apologize or anything just said "oh" and again disappeared. By this point we were just done with the rude treatment and my husband went to talk to someone about the waitress and her lack of fulfilling her job requirements. He was met with " there is nothing we can do about it." So he told me and the kids let's go. We didn't even finish our food, just paid for our mediocre half eaten food and left. Had to go across the street to the gas station to get snacks for the kids since they were still hungry. Would not recommend this place because even though the food wasn't great and the waitress was rude, the staff in charge did nothing to correct this matter, which just shows their lack of caring about their customers. Avoid...
Read moreTL;DR - The food was fresh, but very bland in flavor. Not the greatest selection for a buffet that cost $13, plus $3 for a drink. Wait staff cares more about the volume of customers aside from individual customer care. I will not return.
I came here on a Saturday afternoon at 1 PM. There were two very large groups that came in the restaurant not long before me. Although there was an entire section blocked off as reserved for one of these groups, I (As well as two other smaller groups) was still set in this section at a table that clearly had a reserved sign on it. This made it very awkward when one of the large groups needed the table I was at.
With my first (and unfortunately, only) plate from the buffet, I gave myself a very small sampling of everything. The ribs were very messy, so I decided to wash my hands before returning to the buffet. Upon my trip to the restroom which lasted no more than two minutes, my drink was taken and my table was given away to a couple. I immediately spoke to the manager, and she informed me that when I used the restroom “I took my ticket, so they assumed I was finished.“ I informed the manager that I never received a ticket, that I was gone for no more than two minutes to wash my hands. I was the. told by the manager that if I wanted I could “ Get in line for another table.“ After seeing that the line for waiting on a table was now about 10 people long, I declined. At this point my server rushed over and quickly wrote out a ticket for my $17 meal, handed it to me, and offered me a beverage to go. I decided to cut my losses, pay my check, and leave. I was very clearly still hungry, but the Laredo Taco Company in the gas station next-door satisfied that.
If the food was amazing, I probably would have been a little more upset. Overall, I would give the food 2 out of 5 stars. I have trouble rating any place one star, but I think what really pushed me over the edge was the lack of kindness by the wait staff, and manager. When I was sat, I was never welcome to the restaurant. When I received my first and only beverage, that was never refilled, the only thing I heard from my server was “do you know what you would like to drink?” And after talking to the manager and trying to calmly explain the situation, I was met with argumentative reason why they gave my seat away, instead of an apology and an immediate offer to correct it. (They very clearly told me that I could get in line for a table, instead of offering me the next table available.)
I travel through this area quite frequently, and I usually stop somewhere near here for lunch. From now on, if I do decide to stop around the Oakridge Smokehouse for lunch, I will be going to the Laredo Taco...
Read moreThe food was okay, but the reality was the service was like being bit by mosquitos! In a nutshell, the ogor cashier/manager was a storm cloud on a sunny day. My server was nice, but too busy doing side work, and never came by again, never checked on me or refilled my drink. I had to go find her 30 mins later to get my check.
When I saw the sign outside, “Come as U R, bring your ma n pa” I thought “Oh down home people” I’ll probably like this place. Well, in this case the cashier/manager, wasn’t “down home” but is the type who should have “stayed home” — snarky, miscommunicator, territorial, critical, overcharged me, and is resentful bc you dont share her 3rd grade mental level of maturity. Her attitude wasn't “homey”, it was homely — like an ugly storm on a sunny day.
I wanted to like this place, but this place is her egg and she sits on it and runs it how she wants. She’s a fan of her own stink, and not the open to questions, or the concerned type. Good riddens!
Folks, if you are going East on I-10 towards Houston, treat yourself to a wonderful experience go to Praseks, great food and reviews, and SERVICE! If you’re going West on I-10, go to City Market in Luling. That is what I should have done. Both of these have Amazing BBQ and KINDNESS. Both cost just a tad more, but absolute quality and a great experience —incredible food and people! Snarky...
