Usually order my tires from a warehouse and bring them, this time I said lets try and trust the system. Utilized the main website here to find a set of tires, requested all kinds of other service. The sales person said in no uncertain terms "your tires will be on this evenings delivery to the store and I am setting an appointment for 8AM". Cool, seems like a great way to do business. Find product - confirm price - go get installed. Scheduled cleared, things in motion.
Upon arrival at 8AM I was greeted by a nice gentleman that seemed as perturbed as I was (indicating this happens a lot) informing me that the materials would not be in until 11AM, need to be unloaded and quantified and blah blah blah. So strike one on the Cx already and its only 8:01 AM.
Was informed I would be texted when the goods arrive and are ready. about 12:30 I get a text saying tires are in. I call to confirm because I am not being taken advantage of again.
I get told my appointment was moved to 1:00 PM - Its 12:45PM at this point. At no point was I given this directive or advised, just a loose "it will be here this morning". Strike 2 on the Cx.
Upon re-arrival I appear to have been annoying everyone working there because apparently having your appointment pushed back for their own scheduling incompetency is my fault. I get checked in..again, and after a bit of exchange with the actual service tech to get the wheel lock sorted, its off to the races.
Fast forward nearly 3 and a half hours (grand total this engagement to do tires and an oil change has crested 7 hours) I am being called up to check out. Strike 3 on the Cx
I was given the final price and the clerk was extremely reluctant to share what all was included. Was verbally told succinctly "its the tires you ordered, mount and balance, alignment, and oil change".
After paying and reviewing the bill, they also tacked on a useless Ethanol Corrosion Prevention (whereby they basically charge you 11 dollars to put a bottle of STP in your tank you didnt ask for), they actually charge you for tape weights. Literally tape weights that you can get at full retail for $0.28 an ounce - costs you $20 here. First and last time for everything. Just stop counting strikes at this point.
Oh the clerk also indicated on my way out informed me I am eligible for free tire rotations. I dont know who has this many hours in a day to use it, but whatever Blacks Tire marketing wizard that reads this: If you really want to make it up to me, just give that service to someone on my behalf.
In short, this is the kind of place in the middle of nowhere in the land that time forgot that preys on ignorance and is only getting with poor communication and integration because so few other options exist in either direction down Highway 17. Do yourself a favor, drive the extra little bit to Myrtle Beach or Wilmington, and dont bet on Black.
Also, I did not receive the other services I requested. During initial scoping with sales I had asked for and was quoted A/C service, brake fluid replacement, CVT oil replacement (contingent on an evaluation - apparently having a vehicle in the top 5 most common in the United States is still a mysterious thing to service), and coolant replacement. I tried giving this place money and they just left it on the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been a customer of Blackās Tire & Auto Service for over 11 years. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years as well as other members of my family doing the same. Over the last several years, the service has steadily declined. Roughly 5 years ago, I spoke with Tim on the phone about ordering a set of tires. I told him what I wanted and he took down all of my info and was to order the tires. I checked in a few days later as instructed only to find out Tim had never ordered them. He still had the note he had written down that included the tires and my contact info, the tires were finally ordered after I had to follow up. In recent years when my grandfatherās vehicle was taken here for the yearly inspection each year he needed this tire or that tire replaced and last year he had 2 tires replaced. This year when inspection time came, he needed all 4 new tires to pass inspection. What quality are the tires if they need to be replaced annually? My mother ended up bringing my grandfatherās vehicle to Blackās back on March 21st, 2024 for me as I was out of town. I had scheduled a morning appointment and she arrived well ahead of the scheduled appointment only to have to sit there for over 4 hours, we needed the oil changed and the inspection completed. They decided that the tires had to be replaced as well as replacing the serpentine belt to pass inspection. On 7/5/2024, I called to inquire about bringing his truck in for an oil change and to have the AC checked out, I was told they were busy and offered an appt on Tuesday 7/9 at 8AM. I tried to call on Monday 7/8 at 9:30AM to ask about changing the services I requested but no one answered so I hung up. I dropped the vehicle off around 7:45AM, instead of checking the AC, I asked for them to diagnose a check engine light and as the day progressed I did not hear anything from Blackās. I called at 12:51pm and Tim transferred my call to David, David picked up the phone and the call disconnected so I had to call back and was only told that they were trying to free someone up to do the check engine light diagnostics. When I inquired how long that would take, David said it would be taken care of soon. I did not hear anything else and called back again at 3:04pm, David stated the truck had been hooked up to the machine and they were given the same code I believed to be the problem and David told me they would have to figure out what they needed to do to solve the problem. I asked why it had taken 7 hours for them to not even complete the services I requested and David said I could speak to a manager if I would like. I spoke with Candace and she stated they only had one person available that could run diagnostics and they were still working on vehicles from the prior day. If they would communicate I feel like this would reduce a lot of stress on all parties. If they wouldāve told me that they could not get to the service today, I could have had the vehicle picked up sooner. Everything has just gone down hill at this location, there is never a place to park, customer service/communication is lacking. If they cannot keep up with demand, Blackās needs to open additional locations in Brunswick County and reeducate their employees on customer service and communicating timeframes/needs with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI brought my vehicle in to have the steering wheel aligned after a rack and pinion installation at another garage. I provided the staff with specific information pertaining to the issue, telling them that the previous mechanic was unable to properly align the steering wheel after the rack and pinion installation. They performed the alignment and sent me on my way. On the way home, I noticed that the steering wheel was still out of place and the car was pulling to the right. I called back to explain what was going on and they asked me to bring the car back. I drove back into town so they could look at the car and when I arrived, the attendant (who was the same person I spoke to on the phone) casually said āit needs two tires and we canāt help you until you have new tires.ā When I asked why she didnāt tell me that before I drove all the way back to the shop, her response was āWell, I just now spoke to the technician.ā She also tried to tell me that the steering wheel issue was due to the unevenness of the tread on my tires, even though I had previously provided information about why the steering wheel alignment was off. When I was paying for the service the first time I was there, the person attending did mention that I would need a couple of tires in the near future but never said anything to indicate that the vehicle had not been entirely aligned or that I would need to do something in order for the car to be fixed. Needless to say, I was pretty dissatisfied. My issue is more with the way the situation was handled rather than the actual repair. Really shoddy...
