After realizing that my big-box-store sit-inside first kayak was not working for me anymore as I near 60 years old, I decided it was time for a serious upgrade. Kayaking is something I truly love to do, and I didn't want to let a boat that was a challenge to get in and out of stop me from enjoying it. Many hours of research later, I checked out Five Mountain's reviews and website, and took the plunge and called. Brian answered right away, took the time to listen to my questions and concerns, and immediately made me feel confident that I'd chosen the right place to purchase my new boat. I thought I'd found the model I wanted, but due to manufacturing and other issues, Brian suggested that I research the NuCanoe Flint and he'd call me back to see what I thought. True to his word, he called me back and I decided to stop at his awesome shop the next day. This place is a boater's/fisherman's PARADISE! No pressure when I walked in, I introduced myself to Brian and he let me just shop around for a bit. It turns out his suggestion was the perfect boat for my needs. The purchase was an easy, no-pressure, seamless thing, and I really appreciated that when I said I wanted to invest in a new paddle and PFD Brian didn't push the most expensive versions of each into my hands. I got a top-of-the-line boat, a super-comfy functional PFD, and a fantastic, light mid-range carbon-fiber paddle for exactly my budget. Brian even held the boat for me for the next day. When I showed up to pick it up, he took time to make sure we loaded the boat up safely on my not-then-perfectly-equipped Compass and I was on my way. I waited to write this review until I was able to take the boat on her maiden voyage. Let me tell you, the NuCanoe Flint is an INCREDIBLE kayak. Not gonna lie, it's heavy - I'm a 58-year old woman in the process of getting in better shape, and I can load and unload it myself, but it's a job. That being said - WOW. This boat tracks straight as an arrow, is an absolute dream to paddle, and is so easy to get in and out of. To be able to stretch out, sit cross-legged, even stand on the thing if I wanted to made an afternoon of paddling on a windy reservoir a cakewalk. Don't even get me started on how comfortable the seat it (get the pad for the seat - you won't be sorry!). I could have paddled for another 4 hours and been perfectly comfortable and happy. Sorry for the super long review, but I take reviews seriously when I'm contemplating a major purchase, and wanted to do justice to Five Mountain and Brian for others that do the same. I 100% am overjoyed with the entire experience and recommend this shop to anyone without reservation. Thanks a million, Brian! I know I'll be enjoying this boat for a...
Read moreI just wanted to say thank you. I normally do not write reviews however, this guy and his shop deserves one. I was in a need of a kayak and I was having a very difficult time finding one worth the value. Everyone in the area was closed as well as Five Mountain Outfitters. I tried calling for the shop times and the Owner Brian answered, he let me know that was closed but he told me to stop by anyway. I arrived to his shop and I realized that Brian opened the store exclusively for me! He invited me to his shop and spent approximately two hours hanging out showing me so many options. I finally found the kayak I was looking for. Brian helped me load my new kayak on my truck and noticed that the straps we're to short. Brian went back upstairs and opened a new pack of straps and secured my Kayak to my vehicle. I truly tried to pay him for his straps and he flat out refused, he just said to come back and hangout again. Like I said I normally do not do reviews but in this case, I found a great place and a great person. So yes I would definitely check this place out ,this guy is truly a blessing to have help you with purchasing a new Kayak. Thank you again sir!!!!...
Read moreI was excited to visit Five Mountain Outfitters after viewing the virtual online tour and realizing the shop wasn't all that far from my home in NEPA. So, it is always a treat to visit a tackle shop in winter on a cold blustery day with not much else to do outdoors with the added bonus of checking out some neat Crescent kayaks. This shop has everything you need for gearing up and fishing the Susquehanna and other local waters. I was very impressed with Brian's knowledge of all things fishing and kayaking. He is so enthusiastic with sharing his expertise. I am just as excited knowing that this shop is practically in my background. I am looking forward to future visits and utilizing his shuttle service. I highly recommend you stop by Five Mountain Outfitters for all your fishing needs and more importantly some valuable information on the various...
