I lived here for two years. The location was good and the price-value ratio was decent for the area. During the first year or so, I would have recommended it since management seemed good. Over time, though, I had some bad experiences with maintenance and management’s respect for safety that made me relieved to leave.
Safety incidents: The storage lockers in my building were broken into. I discovered this when I went to my locker and realized my lock had been cut off. Luckily, nothing was stolen from my locker but I’m sure if there was something valuable enough it would have been. When my roommate called the management office, they indicated that they had known for WEEKS that the incident occurred. We had not been notified, so our locker was left unprotected during that whole time. When a new lock was installed on the front door of the building, it was installed incorrectly and did not work so anyone could access the building without a key fob. I called the emergency maintenance line to report this since it was around 6pm on a Friday. I never received any response, but apparently they fixed it sometime the next day because I checked the next evening and it was locking again.
Maintenance incidents: The fridge unit was a fairly cheap/old model and could not hold its cold temperature. On multiple occasions, the freezer became too warm and food had to be thrown out. When the maintenance person (Leo) came, he did not realize my roommate was present so he came in swearing and complaining about how much he hated the residents. To be fair, this was at the beginning of the pandemic so we did have a couple trash bags by the front door that we hadn’t brought downstairs yet, which is probably what he was annoyed by. Leo opened the fridge, did not check the temperature with any device, and did not take any action. He left a note that we should only fill the freezer and fridge half full to avoid overheating. Well, the freezer already being small and continuing to have issues even with only a few items in it, we eventually bought a separate freezer to avoid calling maintenance again. The turning nob on the living room shades stopped working so we submitted a maintenance ticket. Leo came with a helper and again was unprofessional. He yelled at his coworker and they scratched up the wall while replacing...
Read moreI wanted something nice and was willing to pay extra. During the showing the smell was complete terrible. But the lady said the previous owners allowed smoking in there and not to worry because they are going to replace everything and the smell would go away. About 6 weeks later or so I moved in you could still kind of smell the odor. The paint wasn't dried so I ended up keeping the windows opened as much as possible. A few days later the paint dried but yet the doors are still very sticky I don't know why but I guess as long as I avoid it touching anything but the handles it won't be such a problem. My master bedroom especially my walk in closet smells terrible. The odor is so potent especially the walk in closet. Overall took me a few weeks later it slowed down except the walk in closet due to my extra spendings on plug in scented smells and fabreeze with leaving my windows constantly opened luckily it wasn't winter yet. My first week of move in wasn't great. My neighbors upstairs were completely loud from the master bedroom ranging from 10pm-2am. If it was coming from the living room I could care less but it's kind of common sense bedrooms are meant to sleep not blast your tv volume past 10pm. They finally lowered it but I could still hear it. I guess it wasn't as bad as before so I can deal with it considering it is an apartment. I've also been spending extra money into investing in ear plugs just so I can sleep at night. You think paying $1,290 a month you could at least sleep in peace. After the first week we also got a warning for smoking on the balcony without having a chance to explain ourselves. We had guests over after setting up our apt. We were so busy preparing, keeping our guests happy, etc that we forgot to tell some of our friends that smoking is prohibited. Those are just my negatives on the apt. Most of the people that lives here are really nice and friendly. I would give 3 stars but I gave this apt 4 stars because of the staff. They've been really helpful and nice. They get things done right away and you can always...

The apartment has been good so far. Very quiet neighborhood and everyone keeps to themselves. If anything changes, I will update!
Shoreview Grand Final Review
Pros: The heated underground garage is nice, neighborhood is quiet. Most people keep to themselves. Rarely ever any pet droppings outside. Modern style units. Party room is nice. Units are spacious — especially bedroom. Cub/Target is less than 2 miles away. 4 gas stations close by. Water gets hot and cold when needed. Never had to deal with any maintenance issues here. Office staff is responsive and are polite. Pool is nice. Parking is never an issue especially if you have guest. Some community events happen here but are rare. Highway is close by. Extra storage. Lots of cabinet space in kitchen based on unit style.
Cons: THIN WALLS/FLOORS. Can’t choose your neighbors. Some neighbors are very noise sensitive that they get mad and bang your wall at almost every sound you make. Can hear a lot of upstairs noise and downstairs neighbors talking. The TRAIN on Owasso, Victoria St, and Lexington runs frequent. Package has gotten stolen once. Heat turns on even when it’s off in the Spring/Summer months. Heat has been on a timer this past winter, so if it’s cold you’ll have to layer up. Summer gets hot that you’ll need to open bedroom door to feel AC since the unit is in the living room. Smaller bathroom. Shared laundry is terrible especially when neighbors leave their clothes in washer/dryer all day. Uneven flooring in bedroom.
Overall it was a good first apartment experience for my wife and I. Through the good and bad, no place is perfect, but I’m grateful that we both were able to call this place home for 2 years. Thank you to the Shoreview Grand team for making the...
