Star-Lite Roller Skating Center — Local services in Somerset Township

I'm grateful to have had a place to have a party for the kids last minute, but it would be the last thing I ever do to return here voluntarily. This place is just another business in a rural area that is only still open because it presents something for locals to do. Customer service is appalling if not non-existent and these people have no idea how to run a business. We were originally quoted for $150 which included 10 kids and 3 extra pizzas at $18 each which we were fine with. And everything was going fine until I had 2 family members have issues with the tickets; 1) wasn't given what she won (100 tickets) and they gave her a couple quarters and told her to play a different game and; 2) the other had a question and was mouthed off to by the (adult) female behind the counter. My wife talked to the (male) owner and he could've cared less. To make matters worse, we paid for the bill which was less than we got quoted for, so we thought maybe he actually did care and cut us a break - nope. We ended up getting shaken down shortly by an equally rude teenager for MORE than $18/pizza.

Bottom line: I'm sure this place used to be good back in the day, but now I'd compare it to the amusement section of a boardwalk - run down. Facility and equipment were filthy, skates were still drying from what I'm hoping was disinfectant and arcades were on their last legs. But inguess none of that matters when you're main clientele are bored teens.

The kids enjoy it there and I also did, when I was younger. The inside rink is fine. However, they could improve. The gameroom smells of mold and mothballs. The bump in front of the snack bar needs sanded down, where people constantly fall. Also, the bathroom stalls are too tiny and if you are 12+, your knees meet the door when sitting down. I also miss the music videos that they had played when I was a kid. It would be easy enough to put up a projector with Bluetooth and the current songs with videos. Plus, I also miss the disco ball and Friday fright nights. I think the kids today are missing out and...

We go here often. It is ok. Prices are fair. They closenforntge summer which is so odd. I wish they remained open. They also could be a little more involved with their DJ'ing. The person who comes over the microphone has no enthusiasm. When I was a kid and went skating we would be pumped by whomever was behind the mic!
