EDIT: FOUR PEOPLE WERE HOSPITALIZED DUE TO TOXIC POOL WATER.
Original review:
When I first got a membership, this place was clearly taken care of by the ownership. Hot tub was lovely, pools were nice and clean. Great classes. Good facility. The employees are really lovely (still are.)
Then in the recent past, it was sold to someone else. Other members have said it's the guy who also owns Kovak motors. This place has sadly taken a huge dive, but every time I ask other members about telling the owner or reviewing it online, I've been told multiple times if you complain, you'll get kicked out of the membership. So the only downside I see here is that I'll get banned from a place that has severe problems.
Most of the facility is really pretty and the employees are still really lovely. I really like talking with them so I'm bummed.
The pool has been closed about 4 different times due prolonged periods this year (2023.) There has been several problems with the heaters for the outdoor pool and it's been really cold.
The hot tub was closed down by the health department (red flag.) Now that it's open again, it's tepid verging on cold and the employees very understandably are unable to fix that.
The filters sometimes don't work so there's sometimes filth in the pools. This is of course beyond what the employees can take care of.
Yesterday, the showers did not have any hot water going to them. I didn't see the sign on the door about it, so that was a surprise.
The open hours are now much less, yet members are getting charged more than we were months ago. Given the hours and my work schedule, I could only go 4 days a week and I'm not getting a decent product any day I go.
The women's locker room is a disaster area. A wall was torn apart and hasn't been rebuilt. A shower got halfway torn apart and no progress has been made with that. There are several building code violations. There's a fire code violation that hasn't been dealt with.
The new owner took the outside entrance away from the women's locker room. So, when walking to the women's locker room from the outside pools, you track a bunch of water through the small gym so part of the floor is always wet. This makes no sense and it's pretty shabby looking.
The members are really lovely people. It's become a real bummer place to be tho because so many of them understandably complain about the place and how they want to voice their concerns, but don't want to lose their memberships. It seems like every other conversation I have with members goes that way. Many people I used to see have stopped coming.
I really hope there is some improvement in this place. It's been a real treasure in the Sonoma community for decades. It's super sad to see it go downhill so badly and to hear how the owner is unresponsive to the issues and the members. There's a couple other places in town to swim that I've checked out that I like better, so I'm out. Would totally entertain going back if it gets bought by someone else or the new owner starts caring about the facility...
Read moreI've been going to this pool for over 10 years and have always loved it. Since it changed hands last year, there have been many positive changes, like the addition of nice new sun-beds or the ping pong table. However, many of us primarily used this pool as a lap pool. It would be great if some of the lane dividers and end marker flags were brought back, at least during weekdays. The talk around the pool is often about how much everyone misses the lanes, as most people use this fantastic pool for laps. Adding a few extra lanes wouldn't detract from the resort-like atmosphere; instead, it would offer a perfect balance between functional lap lanes and open areas for relaxation, ensuring the pool retains its resort feel.
Additionally, with two pools available, the big one could serve as a great lap pool, while the shallow back pool could be designated for families.
Another point I'd like to mention is the women's dressing room door. It opens directly to the registration desk, making the showers visible, which can be quite uncomfortable for those using them. It would be appreciated if this could be addressed, especially since there is another entrance to the dressing room that could be utilized, allowing this one to be permanently closed.
Having been a member for so long, I've seen how our small community of members feels. Many would be happy to return and continue their memberships if these small changes were implemented because it's still the best pool in the area. Thank you for considering...
Read moreI am a combat disabled veteran and have been a member for 25plus years. The PT at the swim center along with the water yoga and swimming allowed me to improve my strength to where I am no longer held captive by my walker, my forearm crutches and cane. Mineral water heals. Staff are wonderful, facility is clean….the Energy here is good and I’m mobile again! 5 stars!
8 October 2023 update….. The above review was written before Sonoma Fit assumed ownership of the aquatic center. Since then, the facility has gone lacking. Hot tub out of service for weeks, oily, hairy pool water. Last month, I was physically assaulted in the locker room and I no longer feel safe at this facility. Owner unresponsive. Disabled veterans, elderly and others would do well to consider seeking a safer, cleaner...
