I called the Pro Shop to make a practice round tee time for my 9 year old son because he is signed up to play in a junior tournament the following week at this club. I was told I did not need a tee time, but just to "Come on down and Bernie would take care of me." Once we arrived and checked into the pro shop, the guy working again told me there was no need to make a tee time, my son could go out and practice and come in when he was ready. We went out to the driving range and I found out from the tournament director that we would be playing the back 9, so I went back into the pro shop to let them know and was AGAIN, assured that it wouldn't be a problem and they could "squeeze" him in anytime. I told him that we would be in the practice area and could go off anytime in the next hour. My son and I came back up to the pro shop and were told that we could "head on out" and the fellow working pointed us to where the number 10 tee box was. Once I got outside the starter told us, "You can ABSOLUTELY NOT go off the back 9. We are backed up already!" I tried to explain that my son plays quickly and we could easily get off before the next group (which was a foursome) was even to the tee box but he argued and told me there was NO WAY. One of the rangers that had been in the pro shop and overheard the guy working tell us to go on out, tried to tell the starter that to which he replied, "I don't care what he said, I'm the starter!" Then as we were taking the clubs off the back of the cart to drive the 1 hour back to Charlotte, he felt the need to again come over and tell me for the 2nd time that we could NOT go off the back nine. I told him I understood him the first time, but he did not stop. As we got back to our car to leave, the ranger that had overheard the argument felt the need to follow us to the car to tell us it was, "Sorry, but it was not his fault." We have played MANY of the courses in the Charlotte area and Springs Golf Group and have never seen such unprofessionalism...
Read moreWe played a group outing with over 40 golfers at Lancaster Golf Club on March 27th, 2022. It was about an hour drive from our home course in Matthews, NC. The course was in very good condition given the time of year and coming out of winter. Everyone in our group enjoyed their round. The price was well worth the condition. The fairways and tee boxes are coming in good and the greens rolled great.
The greens are in very good condition and can be tricky if you are left above the hole. Most of our group scored better on the back 9 with many struggling to hit their targets on the front. The #7 Island Green was fun to play also, but our group ended up with 4 Double Bogeys!
I would like to say a special thanks to Mike Musialowsk, the head pro for making the tournament successful. He and his crew went out of their way to accommodate our group and made us feel welcome.
If you have a group of golfers or are just an individual considering this course, I highly...
Read more$25 to walk 18 holes on a Sunday afternoon. Got around in a little under three hours as a group of four gentlemen were gracious enough to allow me to play through.
I found the Russell Breeden second nine preferable to the Donald Ross first nine. The reason being that the Ross nine has been tinkered with and reworked to the degree that many of the Ross features have been removed, apart from the landforms across which the course is routed. The addition of many artificial water hazards (holes 6, 7, 9) has changed the strategic elements of a few holes. That, combined with shrunken putting surfaces and some flat, ovaled bunkering lacking in Ross character caused the golfer to wonder what happened to these nine holes.
All in all, Lancaster is a tremendous value. The greens are true and the course is very well conditioned for the...
