Came in on the Saturday Evening of Motherâs Day to get some fried seafood for a couple of Moms who had put in a long hard day of work. The seafood department had just one employee, and we saw a couple other patrons place orders for fried food as well. After waiting patiently, we ordered four meals. We were more than a little surprised by the employeeâs reaction. Instead of thanking us for our order, or explaining that there might be a little bit of a wait, he launched into an accusatory diatribe about how he âis only one person, and canât handle taking orders, cooking fish, and providing people with fresh seafood all at onceâ. Between being exhausted and so taken aback, I admittedly didnât respond very well. I would never allow one of my employees to treat our customers this way. I understand being busy. My entire day had been no different. I also acknowledge that the employee probably didnât have much control over the inappropriate level of staffing in his department. However, his attitude about it was so incredibly unprofessional and infuriating. To make matters even worse, we got home and found that the two whole clam dinners we ordered were under cooked. The majority of the clams were covered in partially raw batter, making the meals inedible. After this, I think Iâll just make the drive to Stop & Shop for my groceries and to Websterâs the next time I want...
Read moreI wish I could give it five stars, because the location is extremely convenient for me and usually, things are reasonably priced and of good quality; also staff are always very welcoming and helpful. But I donât know what changed over the summer? Maybe the hot weather makes it difficult to preserve produce quality? Iâve got several spoiled produce within âthe best use dateâ during the last trip. Examples would be a perfectly looking onion - only to find out half of it already turned black and spoiled after I cut it open and a cup of âfreshly cutâ watermelon - tastes sour and fermented well before the best use date. In the past, Iâve come across several boxes of strawberries with mold. But canât really blame big y on this, because strawberry is a different beast... Overall, I was surprised and a bit disappointed about my last trip.
I didnât give it 1 star because of the past positive experience there, good prices, as well as other items that are working and taste okay. But now Iâm starting to be a bit unsure how much I could trust the produce there after the recent experience. I will try again; but I hope I donât find multiple items spoiled in one grocery trip for...
Read moreThese Big Y stores are over rated. They do have a lot of âextraâ staff making things look good but the quality of produce and meats are no better, and sometimes worse than the other known grocery stores. The extra staff must be afforded by the price gouging going on here? Why is everything priced a dollar more than other markets charge? This is probably why you canât get a cell phone signal in this store. They overcharge and they donât want you to compare prices online so they jam your signal. Thatâs just dirty pool. I hope no one has an emergency because they canât even call nine eleven in this place. These are hard time weâre going through. I know businesses are having a rough time as well but price gouging in times like these show your true colors. You donât care about your customers in this tough economy. Youâre just being greedy! I hope people stop shopping here until Big Y comes down off...
