I love bridges but I can't really say that I'm a fan of this one. Sure, it carries ten lanes of Interstate 494 over the Mississippi River. But wow, it is the most boring and non-aesthetic bridge! If they were looking for unexciting, this is it. Named "Wakota" in honor of the two counties it joins, Washington and Dakota. Completed in 2010, it is certainly wider than the four lane bridge it replaced that had been built in 1959. It is a segmental bridge, made of concrete casts that make for a low cost but unexciting span. It has a total lenth of 1889 feet and 64 feet of clearance over the river below. There is no toll to cross the bridge.

I've crossed several times and always made it safely. Would recommend. However, the area SMELLS horrible. Not sure what's causing it... Maybe the cement or steelwork manufacturers...
