Before this week I would have given 5 stars but I'm very upset over something that happened while shopping at Big Y in Spencer earlier this week. My family and I had finished shopping and were checking out. The cashier bagged some groceries, noticed a 4 to 5 inch tear on the side of the paper bag and ignored it and handed it to the bagger who saw it and ignored it as well and put the bag in the carriage. I normally would have said something but the shock of seeing both employees just ignore the situation had me speechless. My wife and I were upset and on the way out we stopped at self checkout where my wife showed the lady working their the tear in the bag. The lady was just as surprised and gave us a new paperbag. I regret we didn't go to the service desk to complain. Having been a bagger as a teenager almost 50 years ago I would have never given a customer a bag with a tear in it. Also when I bagged I would have never over loaded the paper bags to the point of ripping them just to save on bags like they do now. I mention the over bagging because this has happened a number of times to my family and the bags all start ripping and losing their cheap paper handles by the time we take them out of our van and put then on our porch to be brought in. Heck I've even had the bottom of Big Y paper bags completely fall through leaving groceries all...
Read moreI really don't shop here much anymore, the prices are getting out of hand compared to some other local stores. I am also with so many other customers on the subject of them charging for bags. I don't care about their environmental spiel when tons of things in the store are packaged in plastic. It is up to the consumer to properly handle plastic disposal. Which I do. Charging for bags makes them look like money mongers, period. We give you our patronage and you can't give us a few lousy paper bags for all the money we spend in Big Y. It should be a given as it has always been. Cheap money monger - that is how it makes you look. Reusable bags are bacteria and virus carriers - people don't clean them properly, if ever and they spread whatever is on them from lack of hygiene. Who knows what is on those things. And I am happy to see Governor Baker just said today that he'd rather people not use reuseable bags because of those reasons and that for the time being stores cannot charge for bags. As...
Read morePizza Shop Review: We have had several negative experiences with the pizza shop in the past few months, but today was the worst. I tried to call early this morning to order a pizza for 4pm this afternoon for New Year's Eve. The message said they weren't open yet, but would be open at 11am. I was shopping at the store then, so I went over to place my order. I stood there for at least 3-5 minutes, being ignored by the two people working in the pizza shop. A very rude woman working in the deli making sandwiches asked me if I was ordering or picking up, when I said placing an order, she said she'd be with me in a few minutes. She then asked what I was ordering. When I said I needed a pizza for 4pm, I was told no, they were too busy and couldn't take my order. I tried for another time, and was still told no, they couldn't take the order. I guess we will be getting our pizza elsewhere from now on...a place that plans ahead for busy days, treats customers with respect, and values...
