My 3 year old came down with a fever and no other symptoms. I had gone to the Pediatric clinic earlier where after discussing symptoms they suspected UTI. We couldn’t get a urine sample and the dr gave us meds and advised us strongly that if she starts to vomit to go to the ER, mainly because the antibiotics she prescribed weren’t the top recommended for UTIs and vomiting meant the infection had spread to her kidneys.
Well my child begins vomiting at 10:30 pm Saturday and it didn’t let up. At 1:40 we packed up and went to children’s. She had vomited well over 10 times, couldn’t keep water or medicine down. Her fever was reaching over 102. Getting there was ok, and the nurse who checked us in was wonderful. She got her medicine to stop the vomiting really fast. She even got me something to change into when my baby urinated all over me to get a sample. She was amazing.
But the experience after her was horrific. We didn’t see a dr until well after 2 hours of arriving. My husband and I had been up for over 24 hours at that point. When we did see the dr, they confirmed the UTI and ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound tech was wonderful and had taken care of us quickly. The ultrasound results were posted within 10 minutes and posted to her my chart where I could see the prognosis.
I didn’t see the dr again for 2 more hours, at which point she comes in and gives us her recommendation. A shot and 30 minutes of observation we could go.
It took 3 hours for the shot to be administered. I had to ask three times before someone finally helped. Then it took another hour to discharge us.
Unfortunately my toddler began vomiting again. I had called and asked if they could send medication to an open pharmacy. They agreed and one hour later that pharmacy sends a confirmation for an antibiotic that she can’t take until the next day. At this point, on a Sunday, I had 2 hours until the pharmacy closed. I frantically called the hospital requesting the nausea medicine also be sent before the pharmacy closed. The person I spoke to said they would look for the doctor and hung up. I called back and they had the wrong pharmacy where they would send it. I had to correct her and beg for them to send it as quickly as possible so we could get it before close. My daughter is already struggling to stay hydrated and couldn’t do another night of consistent vomiting coupled with fever.
Fortunately we were able to get it, 30 minutes before the pharmacy closed.
So 9 hours in the ER and some frantic phone calls later, we are hoping we are on the mend from a UTI and...
Read moreI wish I were writing a good review but unfortunately that is not the case. My 5 month old was diagnosed Monday with RSV. We went to children’s Tuesday at 3am due to her breathing not looking good. We were sent home. Wednesday night she got worse so we took her back. They immediately did breathing treatments and got her all checked out. Our nurse in the ER was fantastic. She did apparently have a student she was teaching and let him start the IV on our daughter, to which they ended up having to dig in her little arm for minutes before finally getting it in. We were never informed nor asked if we were ok with students working on our daughter. The ER doctor said she had an ear infection also. They ended up admitting us and by Thursday we hadn’t heard anything about an antibiotic for her ears. One of the nurses also blew in my daughters face to get her to swallow her Tylenol. I called for the nurses later that evening to come check her temp as she felt warm to me again. After 20 minutes nobody came, my daughters spO2 monitor came off and it beeped for 10 minutes and still nobody came. After I went to the nurses station where 3 nurses were chatting and requested someone come now. When they finally came in the questioned why I was wanting her temp checked so often? The respiratory therapist also had a student she was teaching and when I requested no more students work on my child I was essentially bullied into being ok with it since they are a “teaching hospital”. The same nurses who blew in my child’s face and also failed to respond when her monitor fell also told me her antibiotics were in her IV when I asked about them for her ear. When the doctor came in I asked her again and she said “antibiotics for?” I said the ER doc said she had an ear infection. The doctor looked and she by that point had a double ear infection. She thankfully ordered the antibiotics and they were finally administered via IV. I don’t mind a teaching hospital but ask if it’s ok and if not don’t pressure people! Also I’m sure a lot of parents would agree they do not want their children, especially their 5 month old babies being...
Read moreI took my 6 year old in after a visit to urgent care. She had a fever for a week, a horrible cough and her o2 levels were low. The doctor at urgent care recommended I take her the children’s in Springdale. I should have gone with my better judgment and took her to Little Rock. She’s sick and already scared. To start off the shove Tylenol up her butt then proceed to do blood work. Where they hold her down for what felt like an eternity. The fail with the first attempt on the 2nd they draw so blood for labs. Then proceed to tell me they have to put in an Iv. With no fluids ordered. So unnecessary. Like work on the iv that isn’t needed for probably 15 min before giving up. Later on something goes wrong with the test and they need to draw more blood. Long story short they ended up holding her down and poking her arm 7 or 8 times. She’s still sick running a fever and more scared than when we got there. They end up doing chest xray to see if she has pneumonia. After all blood work comes back and xray all they can say is she has some kind of virus. They order a breathing treatment. At this point in fight or flight she has entered fight. She refuses the breathing treatment and again gets held down and forced to do it. They prescribed her an inhaler and send someone in to show us how to use it. (I’ve had other kids on the before) and I really wish I remembered exactly who she is because she really needs to be working somewhere else. As she gets close to my daughter my daughter begins kicking and screaming. They nurse blurts out I’m going call for security. I reply she’s 6 and scared. Her response was i shouldn’t have to worry about coming to work and getting kicked. And I guess at this point they are fed up. But we are also. We get discouraged and have no idea what’s really wrong with her. 1 and a half days of still running a fever she’s finally broke it. I will never take my daughter here again. I’ll will drive the 4 hours to...
