I’m giving this humane society a 1/5 stars. I have VERY mixed feelings on this place. Whilst yes, i think the “clear the kennels” promotion they are doing (oct 2-6) is amazing and I absolutely love the dog I adopted. However, I have many concerns in regards to the care of the animals. The dog I adopted yesterday (October 4th) is a 3month old puppy. Upon receiving/adopting him, he was soaked and reeked of urine (understandable, as they’re in cages that I’m sure are hard to keep clean 24/7). My main concern is that i was told that a full body examination was performed the day I took him home and everything looked “good”. Upon arriving home I found MULTIPLE ticks on him. The staff told me he had received a flee and tick prevention but I was not told there were currently ticks on him (I’m assuming this is because they did not do a thorough examination before allowing him to be adopted). I was told over the phone by one of the staff members, Adam, “we don’t have time to comb through hair by hair to look for ticks. Also, it’s safer to just leave the ticks in and allow them to die and fall off him over the next 1-2 days because the flee and tick prevention will kill them”. I am not a veterinarian but I know removing ticks as soon as possible is very important. I don’t usually leave reviews like this for places, but after having adopted other animals from shelters, I felt it was necessary to bring awareness to these concerns. & i advise everyone that wants to adopt from here or has recently adopted an animal from here to perform your own examination on your dog. I had a very poor customer service experience with the staff as well. I talked to multiple staff members over the phone and in person and felt like I only had one good conversation with a girl, and that was for when I was putting the deposit down for him. Attached is photos of one of the ticks embedded and removed. And of course a cute photo of the new pup(:

I only ever adopt rescues. So, nothing new when I and my daughter fell in love with a beautiful Husky. Given the “clean” bill of health we paid $400 and bought all the things $200 and left with our new family member. Immediately, (within 48 hours) my daughter noticed a tumor on his leg. I contacted the humane society. They were completely unhelpful. They said I could surrender him or bring him to my vet. Surrender him? We brought him home. We wanted them to assist us. So, I brought him to our vet, and left with a bill of $700 our poor dog had a UTI and LYMES disease. I contacted the Humane Society again, and they were unphased. Now, this morning 38 days after adopting him his legs (same leg that had the tumor) went limp. He’s being examined again by my vet another $400 so far. He did not have a clean bill of health. They do not care. My 9yo will likely have to put down her new dog after falling in love with him only a month ago. I understand that things happen but these are long standing medical issues that they did not disclose that have now added medical hardship, in addition to the pain watching your “new” dog suffer. I thought they cared about animals, so I always wanted to support them but this has changed my entire viewpoint. Be prepared.

I adopted a kitten and a dog from here on two separate weeks. The kitten was to be an emotional support animal for my daughter for her first year in college. She was lonely. The dog, could have been handled better. We picked out Siya the day we came to pick up scampi the kitten. We sat in a boardroom filled out paperwork for maybe two and a half hours and we're told we could have Siya for about $150. Then we were also informed that we couldn't pick her up until she had gotten fixed. I came as soon as I could when the dog was ready and finished filling out paperwork, to find later that I was paying twice as much as the agreed upon price. One could understand how I feel Tri-County humane society hold a bait and switch on me and maybe are not as trustworthy as they seem. Will I be coming back? I don't know we'll wait for about 10 years or so and see how I feel. Am I going to speak well of this place? It was clean, the animals all seemed healthy, the people working there seemed friendly enough. But do I trust them I don't know.

When our family decided to get another pet we knew we wanted to "adopt not shop". I visited the Tri-County Humane Society and was overwhelmed not just by how many animals were there but the rate at which they were coming in and also being adopted. I expected to find one, over-worked employee/volunteer attempting to help people while answering phones, etc.. What I found instead was a full staff of employees and volunteers eager to help with tons of helpful knowledge and insights into the individual animals as well as just the animals in general. I had my eye on a couple cats but was advised that they would do better in a home without other pets. So, instead, I decided to take home a six year old domestic shorthair named Tate. Our little Tator Tot was TERRIFIED of everything when we got him. Fast forward one month and he is like a totally different cat! He is brave and curious and full of zest, personality, and life! He is also the SWEETEST cat I have ever met, who wants all the pets and cuddles he can possibly get! TCHS let me take him for $100 which felt like robbery to me because he had more than that in vet care alone at the shelter. I can not articulate the extent of the love in that building. It is palpable. Every human there is invested in every animal that comes through their doors. In my time there, I also got to witness staff interactions when people came in to surrender their pets. I watched and listen to them treat those people with kindness, respect, and dignity knowing that no pet owner ever wants to have to surrender their pet. Their staff treats everyone kindly, across the board. I can not possibly say enough great things about this amazing organization and the work they do. We are so blessed to have them as a part of our community. I wish I could shake the hands of and thank every single person with a hand in helping this very worthy cause. I can not. However, I can assure anyone reading this that the people in this organization are doing God's work and are the closest thing to living angels as I have known. Please consider donating to this very worthy cause. Every dollar helps. I am not employed by or affiliated with TCHS whatsoever. I am just a really big fan and am grateful they exist! On behalf of all animals and also all people, thank you Tri-County Humane Society. Keep up the...

We recently had to put down our sick 12 year old kitty boy. He was my baby and therapy cat for my ASD daughter. Her dad brought her to tri county. They found an adult female cat, previously adopted and returned. She is affectionate and well mannered. However she has worms. My frustration is not that the cat has worms. It is with the staff & process. I called before hours & left a message. No one returned my call. I called back. A woman answered. I gave a short background as to why I was calling, When I said the cat had worms she literally said "yeah.." (like so what), So I asked to speak with someone else. A man gets on the phone and identified himself as a supervisor and he basically said, "we're not licensed vets here, we only do external exams" and had no way to know if the cat had worms because it had only been there for about 45 minutes before (we) adopted her. I said the papers stated she was current in shots, deworming and was supposed to be in good health. He then said yes the cat was given the first round of worming. When I asked why they didn't hold her until the treatment was complete he said they don't have space to hold animals during treatment. (Which he said was only 2-3 weeks). When I asked about the intake process he asked me to hold.. who came on the line was a THIRD person who identified as a customer service specialist, who in short said they had nothing further to discuss unless I want to return the cat. I explained that we do not wish to return the animal that I was disappointed in the process. She said they "did their part" to which I said "sure the person who surrendered the cat paid you AND the person who adopted the cat paid you, nothing else for you to do" and hung up.

Also they said it was "our fault" we paid for the cat because it was name your own price and we could have paid less. We opted to pay $50 because we were under the impression the animals are cared for and healthy. We were trying to do the right thing, clearly Tri County doesn't feel...

A family member of mine adopted a cat from here... the staff was so nice and helpful and due to her age she didn't have to pay an adoption fee but still donated to this place as they always need donations to keep this going... they really care about the animals there and take great care of them... the cat that my family member ended up with is so sweet and amazing... they were up front with everything the cat did have and what they would need as this cat was newly vaccinated and was spayed... unfortunately they aren't able to test for feline leukemia and FIFV I may be wrong on the letters but I know it's something like that because they just don't have the funding... I am glad they are honest and I wish they had the funding to give the animals those test but they would if they could... the lady at the desk was honest about how the cat acts and it was confirmed how sweet, snuggly, playful and overall an amazing cat that gives my family member lots of love and comfort as they needed a comfort animal and a companion to be around... I really appreciate all the hard work and dedication that the employees and volunteers do for the animals... all animals deserve a new home and they strive to accomplish this... there website gives great pictures and descriptions and they also do a deposit to hold an animal you would like since they do go really fast and for the cat was $20... they have really nice cat carriers for sale at a really great price and have 2 sizes as I forgot to bring one along... I was really impressed and happy with the whole experience and now my family member has a companion to help with loneliness and overall health improvement and stress relief that animals bring... thanks so much to everyone for everything you do... keep up the great work!!! I hope people adopt especially the older animals as they don't get as much want as the younger ones but they all need great homes and this is a great...
