My husband and I just had a horrible experience at this store and WILL NEVER GO BACK!! We wanted to go since we have heard it's a nice store. We had picked two items. My husband was looking at the filet mignon. There was only one pack and it didn't look that great. The man in meats said there was more in the back, he'd be right back. A lady working came over and said "there's a pack right there." My husband told the lady "yes, but I don't like the way it looks and wanted to see a few more to select from." She told him they were all the same! She spoke to him in a very rude, condescending manner. There is nothing wrong with asking if they have more to select from. As a customer we have a right to choose which cut of meat we like best when more available. A customer next to us said "she was really rude". We were heading to check out and passed the lady that had been rude. My husband told her that all meat wasn't the same. He simply wanted to see another pack or two to determine which he wanted to purchase. He told her she didn't need to be rude about it and she might want to watch how she talks to customers. We were walking off when she yelled "hey sir, you don't have to buy anything"! This really set my husband off. He told her she wasn't going to tell him what to buy. Then within 2 seconds all hell broke loose! A man, who I assume was the manager came flying down the aisle with several other men, one who actually came from behind me and put his hands on me to move me so he could get near the rest of the "posse"! The assumed manager began yelling that we weren't going to speak to his employee that way, we needed to leave. He was bucking his chest against my husband's! He seemed very hostile. He was trying to be intimidating. My husband told him we would pay for our things and leave but he felt the lady was rude and out of line. The man said he didn't care he wanted us to leave! My husband repeatedly asked this man to back away from him but the man wouldn't, he just kept yelling for us to leave and told one of his employees to call 911! Really, 911? Was he really going to waste an officer's time? I then tried to tell the man that another customer had witnessed how the lady acted and he said "well good"! He was now in my face! He said we needed to leave and never come back. He told us we couldn't buy anything! So we handed him the large pack of hamburger, a roast and a chef-boy-ardee box pepperoni pizza mix and he slammed it to the floor! What a childish act! I wanted to laugh, he reminded me of a child having a tantrum! He started yelling for us to leave again. My husband told him that he needed to back away from us and we were leaving. We turned and were going to exit the store going down the closest aisle when he jumped in front of us and said we couldn't go down that aisle! There was no reason for this. He was trying to bully us! So we went to the last aisle, the entire time having the man and his "posse" directly behind us. My husband told them they needed to back off that we were trying to leave. I guess we weren't leaving fast enough for him because they were directly behind us almost pushing! My husband has a back injury that has affected his mobility. It was ridiculous and unnecessary! We were literally being run out of the store because we had requested to see more filets! They actually followed us to our car! These people are unbelievable! Don't ever ask for anything if you shop there. Apparently it's highly...
Read moreWe bought a large pieces of meat (Ribeye to be cut) to take on vacation with us. We were so excited. I have Always had great meat from here. Well that was NOT the case this time. Besides they cut the steaks maybe 1/3-1/4 not the 3/4- 1 inches I asked for which made them way to thin, the meat was so tough and just out right, no good. I called and spoke to Jason the meat manager, who stated "I have bought from this same meat company for 3 years and never had any complaints, so their is nothing I can do for you", "and you should have said something about the cut if thats not what you wanted, they are packed in clear plastic" Well yes they were in clear plastice and the few you could see on top were cut right it was the ones under them. I spent over $120 in meat at BiRite that is too nasty to eat. Now at Smith Mountain Lake we had to go buy more steaks at FoodLion to have for our party at the lake. I have always raved about how great BiRite customer service is and how great their meats were. I will never shop their again and diffently not refer them to anyone. Note, I told Jason I would bring back (after Saturday since we are on vacation) the rest of the steaks, we only had 4 out of the large cut of meat and if he could just cut us a new Ribeye, i didn't want Any money back, just give me meat that is worth eating because what I have now is not. Horrible customer service that I would never expect from this family owned store. They never ran the store like this before, it's appalling that this is how they are now treating repeat customers. Please note even with them too thin we were willing to try them but the taste and how chewy they are, it jusy not a good...
Read moreThis is the only store I will by my meat. They have better than exceptional Filets. We normally by a half of a Filet ( which looks like half of a cow) for about 110.00 and you can cut at least 15 or more filet mignon steaks from it. They have a cooler with all their own homemade slaw, chili, barbeque, banana pudding, cherry delight, egg salad, chicken salad, etc. Try them all,,,they are all excellent! They still take the groceries out to your car like they used to do. I love this store. Also, when it's warm outside stop at their hotdog stand. Hotdogs are only 1.25. I go by there for lunch alot and get about 3 hotdogs. I love their hotdogs!
Update 6/8/23: Since they updated and moved their location, yes they still have the same wonderful meat, but prices have went up dramatically. I just went yesterday and had to pay $8.00 for a box of Cheerios, and other canned or boxed food there are also overpriced, when I am used to paying far less at Food Lion for them. I will by my meat and some produce only for Bi-Rite from now on and get the rest of my groceries from Food Lion. And I really hate to go to several places just to make a grocery trip that you should be able to just do at one, but groceries are too expensive due to inflation as it is and it makes way more sense to spend 50 cents more in gas when Food Lion is only 5 miles down the road than to spend 60 more dollars on the same groceries. Sorry Bi-Rite. I am just not a cook and most of my groceries consist of convenience foods (Frozen, canned or...
