Disappointed, uncomfortable, & embarrassed. This is how I felt after being asked to leave the spa after flying from Iowa for a special surprise âBaby Moonâ spa experience for my 8 month pregnant wife & our first trip to AZ. I cannot speak to the services provided so I want to clarify I cannot attest to how great the services might be & ultimately why we chose this resort & spa based on the reviews. Unfortunately, my wife and I were unable to book services in the same day (which was okay!) so we booked a prenatal on Saturday & a massage for myself first thing Sunday morning before catching our flight back to Iowa Sunday. We arrived Saturday morning & had a great conversation with Shannon (extremely friendly) asking if there was cancellations for the day so we could both enjoy the amenities of the spa or if it was better for us to keep our current reservations. She understood our situation, was very accommodating, and reassured us of our services and access to the amenities that we flew here to enjoy. I was very impressed with her communication & we went back to our room to get ready for our day at the spa. We returned, checked in early to sit by the pool before the lunch we had planned, and this is where our entire experience went down hill. My Wife was taken back received a robe & was told I would be brought back & we would meet in the couples lounge. I sat awkwardly in the lobby left unaddressed as staff would make eye contact with me and vissably whisper to eachother. After waiting a period of time, my wife came to the lobby confused after I wasnât meeting her in the couples area where she was told by staff I would be meeting her. She showed me to the mens locker room and forwarded the information of the robe, a staff member brought spa shoes, & I changed. We entered the pool area to catch some sun before the scheduled massage and a manager, Ashlee, confronted us in front of other guests asking us to leave the spa because we didnât both have services booked in the same day. We awknoledged the concern and tried to explain the conversation we had first thing this morning & how a staff member reassured us of the access to the spa experience. While being very short with us she demanded that Covid policies (itâs Sept 2022) prohibit access for both of us, told us that whoever talked to us didnât say that and was wrong, and then asked us to leave again. We politely picked up our things and left the spa. After we gathered our things, changed, and were leaving the spa I was stopped my the manager and told that after speaking to the team she understood what we had originally verbalized to her and I was welcome to the spa and could go back to the locker room to change and go back to the pool. I appreciated the effort but at that point we were both extremely embarrassed, disappointed, and frustrated. I politely cancelled my massage service. I was then apologied to for the miscommunication. From my years of experience as a business owner, Iâve learned that people may forget what you said but people donât forget the way you make them feel. Again, I cannot speak to the services provided because I unfortunately didnât get to experience them. We were grateful to be able to change our day & lunch plans.    Read moreI visited on a day pass, which was very difficult to "book" (resere) because I was told that the day pass is subject to availability because they have to accommodate their guests who have reserved/purchased a spa service. Upon my fourth attempt (over a two month span) I grew irritated that a day pass is offered but really not available so I asked to speak with the spa director. After speaking with her she was willing to accommodate me with a reservation for me and my three friends. Keep in mind the reason I could not get a reservation through the normal process (front desk) is because they are too book up to accommodate us on a day pass. The spa director alluded that they were booked heavily but made an exception for me. The day of my visit the spa was completely void of guests! I spend nearly 4-5 hours there, hence the day pass. In my duration that day I saw a total of four other guests! The front desk reservations surely could have accommodated my request for three reservations. I suspect the spa does not actually want to provide guests to take advantage of the day pass because the cost is considerably less than the cost of spa services. To add insult to injury the day pass increases in cost on Friday - Sunday! I had to pay $50 as opposed to the normal $35! Guests do not get anything additional on Fri - Sun to offset the increase in price. The facility is nicely appointed and there are great amenities but nothing outstanding that other spas offer, such as Talking Stick. At Talking Stick the spa is nice and not as large but their $25 fee is the same all week long! To me, Aji Spa represents themselves as a high-end, luxurious venue but in reality they are not much different than all the rest. They have an amazing staff, starting with Autumn at the front desk. She was super courteous and checked me in super quick.
Dana came right away to take me into the locker rooms. She gave me a delightful tour of the place and checked in on me multiple times to be sure I was ok. First stop was the jacuzzi- the bubbles wouldnât come on, so I just sat in without them & bam! Dana appeared like a genie and turned them on! She was really great.
My massage with Tim was excellent. He has a wonderful touch and gave attention to my problem areas as requested. He was extremely professional and ensured I was comfortable the whole way through with multiple pressure checks. I did the scalp & body session and really enjoyed the protocol.
The facilities staff do a wonderful job of quickly & quietly resetting things as they are used. Everything was always perfectly in place and ready for whoever may need it next- and you never saw the reset happen! Itâs incredibly well done. They stock all the right toiletries to help get yourself put back together before or after a session also. Iâm sure Tim appreciated that I could brush my teeth before our session (after enjoying the awesome ceviche!) đ kudos to the chef on that also!!
Katie at the pool bar definitely also deserves mention. Excellent at her job, quick, & so sweet! She was just wonderful- kept me updated on the time so I had plenty of time to get showered before my session.
