I've been thinking about this review for some time now, mainly because when I first started using ThredUp it seemed like a good deal for me. I was able to recycle my old clothes I no longer needed and make some money. BUT those times are gone. ThredUp has been running on empty for a long time now, charging their clients to mail inventory to them and charging a processing fee. Quite literally the focus of their site... they're now charging because their business model isn't successful. Now while I admire their interest to re-up and bash fast fashion, they really do NOT practice what they preach. They sell H&M, Target, Macy's and Forever 21 brands on their site... these are just a few of the fast fashion brands that they look down on. When I first started selling on TU about 2 years ago, things were good. I was making about $600- $120 per box. There was no processing fee or return shipping fee then, please note. I was satisfied with the pricing, you might even say I felt they were charging TOO much for my items. That has completely changed. The reason for my review is to express my distrust in this system and the employees running TU. I most recently sent in a gm Louis Vuitton Masseur messenger bag. It was purchased and authenticated on eBay in 2021. I spent $600 on it. Truth be told, I never wore it, it was too big and I stopped carrying my laptop to work when Covid happened. I sent it to TU to sell. I am 100% careful and particular with having ALL of my returns sent back to me. I even label the shipping labels at my printer. I never heard back on that bag, it was not listed in my items nor was it returned to me. I called TU and they said that I sent it in on a no-return label. That was completely false. I asked for proof, but they couldn't show me anything. I had my proof, they dismissed it. I asked for the bag to be returned to me, they sent it up the never ending no one actually cares customer service which is a complete joke. I spoke with countless people, all with no answers except sorry it's gone. You're not organized? You don't keep records? You just toss in the garbage? I know without a doubt that there is a TU employee who is wearing that bag right now. They said it couldn't be authenticated, fine... just return it to me. Why toss it? Even if I had opted for the no return, which I did not. Why not for legal purposes send the high-end bags back. That's just good business. I worked a few summers for fun in consignment stores, I had the time of my life. And as good practice even when we said that if you don't pick up the bag within 30 days the store owns it... we kept the high end stuff for the sellers just in case. A happy seller, sells more stuff, keeps your inventory going and continues to buy. I mean, I think I learned that day one at Haas. My next issue came when they sold a Brahmin weekender bag, the limited edition sort... for $65. My cut was $20. I bought it for $500 brand new, and sent it to TU having never been used. Do they not do research? A quick google search had my bag on ebay, the real real, rebag and fashionphile all for over $500. BUT they sold this rare bag for $65, Brand spanking New. What???? Why??? No. Since then, I have pulled all my items from TU. I'd rather donate them to a charity and get the fat write off vs the measly few bucks they send your way. I think that is the trick? They sell an item or 2 of yours to keep you on the hook, but my high end items were going lost. They really should take a second look at how they operate. I've been called a VIP with them for 2 years since my items sell the highest, but they certainly don't treat me like it. I'd be surprised if they last past 2024. Not good business practices. They should be ashamed of the scammers they...
Read moreI've purchased multiple times from ThredUp. Last week, I was extremely disgusted with ThredUp when I purchased some beautiful Dita sunglasses. After waiting for an eternity for them to drop out of someone's cart, one of the workers stole them. ThredUp sent me a refund and stated the condition was not what they thought, but they were listed in "EXCELLENT" condition. Meanwhile, the email mentioned that I was being refunded AND they were still sending the sunglasses. This was crazy to me, and of course, they weren't in the box. Why? To mention sending it to the customer means, it has left the facility/no longer available at ThredUp because it is in one fo the worker's pockets. People are just not good anymore. I am disappointed and they gave me a $25 credit when I'd rather have the item I ordered.
You know you have great taste when a worker intercepts your item and helps themselves.
Thanks to those who left reviews about their experiences sending in items for them to sell (as consignment). ThredUp Officials and CEOs should be ashamed of how they operate if people are only getting a tiny fraction of their beloved, designer items- it is obvious the only people making money are the ones at the top. I couldn't run a business like that- basically robbing the people you make money off of.
Suggestion to add-I have shopped and sold on eBay (of course things are not perfect and their fees have increased over time) for years so go the eBay route and pay someone to list for you and do it yourself-it is well worth it and you get most of the money).
To the worker who stole the purple Dita sunglasses I found, waited on, and paid for ...to the one who lied about condition and packing them when they were reportedly in excellent condition- may you get the karma you deserve... in addition, you should be out of a job, because ThredUp managers should've looked into this when I complained and they should've been able to trace who supposedly was responsible for...
Read moreAt first I thought this was a brilliant way to sell clothing and accessories I don’t need or want anymore and purchase new (to me) items to freshen up my wardrobe. This saved me and immense amount of time because I didn’t need to take pics of the items I no longer wanted, post them on various sites, write a long description, check multiple times a day then go to the Post Office to mail it. ThredUP seemed easier…….. that was until I sent in my daughter’s Hunter rain boots that she wore maybe 5 times and the dress I wore to her wedding. Magically these new items were “not fit to sell and had to be thrown away.” Hmmmmm a new dress for a wedding worn for 6-8 hours and a pair of pristine Hunter boots had to be thrown away? Uh huh. It then dawned on me that there is no monitoring of the people who receive the bags that are sent in. How could they possibly watch every single worker open every single bag? So this mail in service with, no proof of what you sent and what condition your items are in, becomes a free for the taking to whomever wants to take them racket. All the employee needs to do is say they are not sellable and that’s it. My dress and my daughter’s boots, among other items, were stolen by ThredUP, straight up stolen. When I tried to tell customer service the situation I received a nasty email stating they sided with the worker and they refused to do anything about it. Some of the employees at ThredUP are thieves there is no nice way to put it. And why is it so difficult to find a phone number to call customer service? If you think about it you are just putting your clothes and accessories into a bag with absolutely no guarantee they will acknowledge receiving your bag or that your items won’t be stolen from you. I advise against trusting this company, they are dishonest and will make contacting them extraordinarily difficult, then imply you are a liar. ThredUP...
