J & H Automotive Inc — Local services in Tangent

BLUF: We’ve been going here for years, and we’ll keep doing so until they retire, or I stop driving.

I’ve been taking our families vehicles to Jason and Heather at J&H Automotive for about seven years. We’ve had oil changes, brakes, alignments, custom suspension work, a complete Bullet Proof Diesel kit, and numerous other “emergency” services over the years.

They are not the “cheapest” shop in town, but they will treat your vehicle like their kids are going to ride in it. They have always been upfront about their shop rates, and have been able to work around my budget when necessary. Sometimes you can put stuff off for a bit, sometimes you can’t. Owning a car is expensive and so is keeping up on the maintenance.

I would gladly take my vehicles to an experienced and straightforward shop like J&H rather than a “budget” mobile or work from home outfit. I started taking my truck there after getting royally worked over at two different dealer shops in Salem.

I asked Heather once what we averaged a year in her shop (I like to budget as far in advance as possible). Turns out we trust them enough to spend about $3500 a year there. Our clutch went out on a Monday and they were able to schedule us for a Tuesday assessment when other shops were scheduling two weeks out.

Meanwhile, our other car needed immediate assessment as our replacement vehicle and they scheduled us for that same Monday afternoon!

When I spoke by phone with Heather (the owner) and asked her for help, she was able to recommend to me a great towing service able to bill my insurance without my having to go through the usual hours of Roadside Service coordinating.

This community-oriented shop is generous with its time and the staff genuinely cares about my needs.

Tyler in front office and Ben in repair have been kind and patient with my many (many) questions and share information about our vehicle's needs without reservation.

Listening to Heather in-person "speak shop" with the staff and conversing more with her about her business background has proven to me J&H operates on good foundational principles.

Just today, Ben spent more quality time with me trying to troubleshoot a fuel-smelling leak on the running car that my family is relying upon.

I have found the best place to take our vehicles for their repair and maintenance needs. It is wonderful to have this sense of security.

A couple years back, I used to drive an old Mercedes. The car developed an issue with its ignition system, and so I ended up taking it to J & H. Long story short, they weren't able to perform the service the car needed and I ended up taking it to a dealership. However, they didn't charge me anything to take a look at the car and to let it sit there until I arranged to have it towed off. I don't own that Mercedes anymore, but I've since switched over to J & H for all maintenance on my current car. The work done here is top quality! The mechanic services I used previously always used to leave behind excess oil residue during oil changes that made the car smell unpleasant for a while, and guess what immediately stopped after I switched over to J & H? I appreciate their attention to detail, and their commitment to high quality work. They really treat you like family here, and perform their work on your car like it was their own.
