Hobbs Hole Golf Course — Local services in Tappahannock

I love this golf course. However, with that being said, I couldn’t give it five stars. I almost gave it three stars. But that wouldn’t be fair either. The primary issue I have is that I drive over an hour to get there. On the weekends, I intentionally take the very first teatime on either Saturday or Sunday. So that I can play get back home and still have part of that day to get done what I need to get done. Over the last couple months I’ve had that first tee time on roughly 7 occasions on five occasions I guess those members who feel entitled go off before 730 and according to the course management, that’s not supposed to be happening. This past weekend I had the published first teatime again which I understand is the first tee time and the course allowed a booking at 7:25. Two walkers. Again, I love this course and the pro is a nice guy. And even though I’m not a member over the year I am Spending just as much as it would cost me to be a member . 4/11/21 First time playing the course today. Late fall / early summer round, course has not filled in yet with summer growth, greens had been punched and dressed and not fully healed. Course lacks any meaningful terrain but the Greens make up for that, not a flat one out there. Fairways were in good shape and although the greens had been punched they were decent. Staff is very nice. Only complaint is if you had not played it before the holes and in between are not marked all that well. But in defense it was not overly hard to navigate. Honestly I'm looking forward to playing it again once the greens are fully healed and the summer growth kicks in. I think it will be a very nice course to play. Well worth the time to go to it. Price was decent as well.

The course is in very good shape as spring is finally here. Improvements are being made daily, ball washers on the holes , re-working the sand traps, and aeration and top dressing the greens are making the course really nice esthetically as well as challenging. The staff is always courteous, polite, and helpful in securing our golfers needs. I broke a seven iron on an approach shot and the pro, Brian Hettinger, repaired it in a timely fashion. He definitely is taking the steps to improve the course, the hospitality, and the play of the course no matter what your level of play is.
