On May 4th 2019 at Taylor's Fall intestate park (Minnesota side) boat launch area. We witnessed a horrific incident regarding a family whose canoe tipped over due to high winds and strong currents. The first canoe tipped over in the middle of the river. We heard screaming and splashing. Within seconds another two in a canoe tipped over to our left sending both into the water. Now a race of time these people were in the cold rushing water for about five minutes. Seconds felt like minutes and minutes turned to hours for these people. From the distances a private boater rushed to aid the people in the middle of the river. We observed two adults and a child in the first canoe and two adults in the other. With good observations thankfully they were wearing life vest. Parks recreational employees were notified and quickly attempted to rescue the other two in the water. Thanks to first repsonders who acted quickly and rush to the park. It was a scary incident that could of gone south. Thankfully no one drowned.
Please stay safe and be careful. St. Croix river is not to be mess with....
Read moreWe've used this outfit for our annual fall semester new student welcome event since...2019? They never disappoint. Everything is ready to go when we get there (kayaks/lifejackets) are on the beach, toddler's life vests are prepared in advance, and paddles are ready to go. They work with us on tax exemption, group rate, and constant number updates on how many we need. They help pull people to shore at the end so they get minimally wet and the shuttle is always ready and gives a quick drive back to the launch point. Plenty of parking, though it's a bit annoying to pay the state park fee to park there. They do accept cards and cash now, though. This 7 mile section of the river is perfect for kayaking beginners as it's wide, flat, little to no debris, and generally shallow (though the new open face kayaks don't take on water, they are tippier than the closed versions, so make sure to wear the life vest or be a good swimmer as one of our group members fell out this year in a particularly cold and deep part). Will continue bringing groups here because...
Read moreThe kayaking idea and place is great. The 7miles one way is super pretty with lots of stop options along the way and picturous scenery along the way. You are going with the current, which is amazing and helps a lot. When they say it takes you 2-3hours or depending on conditions longer, they will be right and know what they are talking about. Give yourself the time they suggest and arrive early! The website states “pick up anytime between 10AM-2PM“. You need to keep in mind that this sentence means that you have to be on the water by 2PM. If you are not, they are very very strict about not letting you rent that day and will make you reschedule. KNOW THAT BEFORE. Give yourself time and plan to arrive at 1:45 the latest. Keep in mind that you’ll need to pay for parking and find parking.
Overall a great experience but would have liked to know about the strictness of their policies timewise. (Keep in mind too, that there is traffic coming from the highway and you’ll probably take longer than what...
