I attended South suburban College from 2009 to 2011, during the time at the school, no issues, no problems, no complaints… I had a great time learning and I obtained 57 credits. This last semester, 13 years later…I decided to go back to take one or two courses.
I found continuous discrepancies with the Financial aid staff and department, whereas they said that my school courses were covered, but indeed they weren’t yet.
The phone system for whatever reason was also shut off for a couple of days during the last week of December, this alone gave me a bad feeling about what is going on with the school and its professionalism.
I dropped the courses that I had and decided that SSC probably wouldn’t be the best school for me. However, on January 25th, I signed up for two courses and went to school for one day and concretely realized that indeed everything was different and finally and officially canceled all matters with College.
In the beginning the financial aid and their boss Mr. Jason Wroda were only interested in money and not educating individuals. Even after I removed the school for my FASFA online weeks later as a test of integrity, the staff would still say that my classes were fully covered as to make somebody incur a debt… Without actually doing their work or caring if financial aid had cleared. They basically found a way to legally steal if you ask me, I tried to call and ask for the ridiculous amount of $1885 to be waived as I only went to school for one day. Jason Wroda said that he runs the school since 2014 and that is the way things are. He is more of a debt collector than an educator.
I’ve felt discriminated and harassed, not to mention almost robbed out of my financial aid money. Only to find a racist white guy who doesn’t like Hispanics and treats you like a child at 39 years old. Furthermore, wouldn’t be surprised if you see the news and see him going to Prison and school shut down. Sad truly sad, it was a good school but now I’m not sure what it is. I guess is like his attitude, he like the Kennedy there, not much you can do but to contact Hoover and...
Read moreThey make getting financial aid as difficult as possible. I had to submit my transcripts multiple times via Parchment to their aide office as they claim they were never received.I reached out to Parchment to check what the issue could be and they confirmed that the transcripts had indeed been sent and received by South Suburban every time I paid to have them sent. Even the Ssc self-service portal stated that the transcripts had been received. After calling and calling they magically were able to find them.
Almost a month into the Spring semester they still had not dispersed the aide money. It took more calling and calling the get the aide money applied to my account to be able to pay for the classes. Almost every call was met by someone were extremely rude, condescending and unhelpful. Now there are about 3 weeks left in the semester and I have still yet to receive the remaining financial aide balance. After calling again I’m told it’s going to be a few more weeks until it will be sent out??? So don’t expect a refund until AFTER the semester is over.
Ludicrous
Additionally, their network is TERRIBLE! For A large portion of the fall semester going into the spring semester you could not access their online network, leaving necessary internet portals inaccessible.
And don’t bother to ask them questions because they will just transfer you to someone else.
They dont seem to value their students, just the income...
Read moreThis school is good for anyone who is determined to get in and get out! There are some really bad teachers here, but there are bad teachers everywhere no matter where you go. Just always make sure to ask a counselor about your instructors before enrolling in the actual class. There are some really nice counselors there, Mr. Todd and Mrs. Carrilio... super nice people and will help you with anything you need. There are more councelors, I just have never met them. The students there..well..... ehh... its a mixture of African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian...at times it can be very segregated...Not really a mix of color if you know what I mean...Whites hang with whites, Hispanics hang with Hispanics, African-Americans hang with African-Americans. Sometimes you see a mix of people but not really. The school has a great Theatre Department if thats your major, but good luck getting casted in any plays.... they always cast the same people for every show...You have to be really good to be considered for a roll. They have a great Music Department, Communications Department, and good extracurricular activities to help student be involved in school. The environment isnt the best... students can sometimes be ignorant and rowdy, but its good if your willing to make the best out of what youve got. Determination and Positivity will help you...
