The effort:payoff ratio is extremely low. It's a small outcropping of rock at a low altitude (1400'ish, but the surrounding area isn't at 0', so you're looking at a few hundred feet vertical at most) overlooking gentle hills covered in trees after about a 30min hike through terrain I'd describe as "fist-sized loose rocks under leaves". Among the most obnoxious hiking surfaces I've encountered in the world -- which would be irrelevant if there was a payoff. Read moreWe did the hike from the Chimney Rock parking lot. The lot itself has parking space for 5 cars but it has an extension on the other side of the road. The hike was difficult, it's a constant uphill 60 degree gradient walk for 0.6 miles then flattening for 0.4 miles followed by an unhill stretch of 0.2 miles. What made the hike difficult were the rocks, it's prety annoying and if not vigilant can cause an ankle injury, so Be Very Careful hiking on this trail.
