Afton Fair Grounds — Local services in Town of Afton

Entire half or more of harness track not even viewable as its obscured by some type of unkempt inner car track. Bleacher seating was old, uncared for, outdated, filthy & very difficult to climb (if not impossible for people with disabilities!) as there were not even handrails! Traffic flow on the actual grounds were not directed or guided in any manner -- no people, no flow signs, even, and were therefore very unsafe! Serious accidents just waiting to happen! There was no judges stand for the harness races, unreliable communication techniques between the judges & the barns, etc... no official race timing abilities & not very effective microphones for judge announcements. I was extremely unimpressed with this fairground and feel strongly that despite it's small size, there remain many cost effective ways to update & improve safety, traffic flow, communication, & track visibility & racing enjoyment by attendees--for one thing, harness racing should actually occur during fair week!! Drove two hours to nothingness! We have gone the last few years after stumbling onto this quaint litter fair that was jam-packed with different things to do, food to eat, games to play, and rides for the kids. There were also tons of vendors. This year, after driving two hours, paying $5 per person, getting a bite to eat, and looking at the vendor booths, we were done and left within 30 minutes of arriving. Talk of the town that there is dissension amongst the ranks, a new town board who was not able to secure vendors, or a midway company. Should find a way to share this information before people travel. If the same way next year, you should post on your site. This was not a fair, could not even be considered a field days or festival. I am absolutely shocked and so impressed by the 2025 Afton Fair it was amazing and better than the brome county and Otsego County fairs! And this is only a small town fair Afton has only a population of 800 or so and they put on a fair this good I’m just so impressed and shocked and they got Dreamland Amusements which are so good and a lot better than Gillette Shows plus they had a petting zoo, the museum of Marvels Freak show, Games, Amazing food, Antique farming equipment, a bunch of vendors, the race track, Dinosaur Xperinence, Chee Chee the clown, And Baby changing stations cooling stations and so many places to sit and eat will most definitely positively return next...
