I have this bad habit of breaking my hard drive from time to time. I'm not sure why, but it's probably because I overwork the computer. They are always unsalvageable, which is why I now use Google Drive to store all my important stuff. Rather than have to deal with Dell customer service online (that and I'm sure I'm past warranty) I decided to find a local company to help me out. I strolled into American Micro last week and became instant friends with Tony.
Tony diagnosed the problem which I already feared - another broken hard drive. He ordered me another one immediately, installed it, and hooked me up with anti-virus software as well. I brought my computer in on Wednesday, and by Monday it was fixed and operational. Even though he knew and I knew my hard drive was done, he still tried to see if he could get it to work or salvage anything from it. Tony also made sure I had all the programs I needed on my computer up and running before he would let me take my computer home. Gotta love that in the service and repair industry; making sure everything is operational and as close to the way I had it before the problem occurred.
As for the costs, talk about being more than fair! He ordered the new hard drive for me using my credit card, so there was no additional markup! Who does that? Car dealers markup the tires they install on your car, and painters markup the paint they put on your walls, but I'm getting components for my computer at cost! In addition, the cost of the labor I was charged was much less than what I ever imagined. I bet Best Buy's Geek Squad or Dell's technical support would have charged me double and employ individuals with less technical knowledge.
I highly recommend Tony and American Micro if you ever have problems with a computer. It sucks that your computer - often your lifeline for work - isn't working, but Tony will help make things right as quickly as possible, without costing you a fortune. I don't look forward to seeing Tony anytime soon, but when I need his services again in the future, I am glad he will be...
Read moreFirst of all, thank you Tony and Eric for saving my laptop! My HP pavilion laptop had its hinge come off on its own (I did not drop or smash it in any way) and I could not close it properly. I called American Micro and spoke to Tony who listened patiently to my problem and asked me to bring it over so that he could give me a quick diagnosis and quote free of charge (this, in a time and place when people charge you between $35 and $100 to simply touch the laptop). I took it over and it seemed that the problem was more severe than the hinge, there was a part of the screen that was coming off from its backbone (I don't know the technical terms). To replace the screen would cost as much or more than the laptop itself, which was bad news for me, but Tony came up with a "Hail Mary pass" - he offered to use an adhesive (a very strong one) to bind the part that was coming off. Since there was no other option, we went ahead with it. Everything was done with in a matter of 20 minutes. And, believe it or not, Tony didn't charge me a penny for it (although I insisted otherwise) since "it was just a gluing on job". The sincerity and concern with which they treat customers and their problems (which you can see in the other reviews too) is a real rarity these days. If I have any problems with my laptop in the future, I know where I will be running too. This is the best computer service related experience I have ever had in...
Read moreGreat family business that does fair and honest work. My laptop was not charging so I brought it in for them to look at. They were very upfront with what could be wrong with it and what it would cost for them to fix it before they started doing any work. They explained what they were doing and tried everything they could to fix my computer (unfortunately it was unfixable). They then helped me get set up on a new computer the same day and charged me incredibly fairly. They went above and beyond to help me get everything set up when they didn't need to, and it wasn't expected of them. Every business should be run the way these guys run theirs. For computer repairs I would highly recommend giving these...
