I am a college student. I was home for the week and desperately needing a cut while my usual stylist is on a maternity leave. My experience here was just below mediocre. The place itself is decent, and my appointment was timely. My hair washing was very lengthy, but probably better than the haircut. The woman who cut it, Tina, seemed like she did not want to be there and wasn't interested in doing a good job on my hair. I was telling her what I wanted, and her responses were exactly what I don't want hair dressers to do: reiterating incorrectly. I felt as if she did not listen to what I was saying. It really frustrated me how she did not seem to understand me no matter how simple and clear I was being. For example, two inches below my chin turned into half a centimeter, bottom of the back of my neck turned into the top where the hair starts growing, etc. (Also, she looked about 40 years old. I thought it'd be a little more promising.) I just wanted a cute, layered haircut. The one I got is plain. It has very little angle to it and the layers are sparse: not very stylish at all. I also paid an extra $5 to have my scalp burnt to a crisp when she blow-dried my hair. Although it was not what I wanted, it's not an absolutely terrible haircut, but MUST be styled immensely to look decent. My own mother might have done a lesser job, but not by much, for $26.95 less (w/ blow-dry), and would've made it much closer to how I wanted it to look. I cut my boyfriend's hair. It's REALLY not that hard. For the past 2 or so years I've been to a day spa for $50 haircuts. This experience made me remember how totally worth the money it is. Thinking that I could get something similar to the quality for less was stupid of me....
Read moreHORRIBLE. i wish they just told me to leave. i came as a walk in they said they could take me no problem. all i wanted was a layers and for my grown out bangs to fade into my hair better and then a trim if needed. the stylist very nastily said “you don’t have dead ends. but we can still cut it.” and i said no if i don’t have any that’s okay and she cut off several inches anyway. she flipped through my hair and said “you have like really thick hair. this was supposed to be quick. there is nothing quick about this.” and i just said “oh i’m sorry..” then for my “layers” she quite literally took thinning shears and went crazy with them. no layers. just thinned tf out of my hair. for my bangs she took a bunch of hair from the front, chopped straight across and said “okay we’re done” i was dumb founded she was letting me walk out like this. as i was checking out the front desk told me she was a level 4 stylist and that’s what i have to pay for even though i was a walk in. as if she couldn’t see what the stylist just did to me. she completely and utterly botched my hair and did not care. i cried in the parking lot for 20 minutes before leaving. i ended up calling bombshell down the street and thank god they took me. the stylist there said she was so sorry that choices did this. she said it was 2” off from being even and had to take off more so it would match. even she was appalled someone would let a client leave looking like that. would not recommend this place to anyone. if you want to be in delmar, go to BOMBSHELL it’s just down the street. way better service and the people there actually listen to what you’re looking for. DO NOT...
Read moreI cannot remember how long I have been going to Choices, more than 15 years for sure, so I obviously love my color and curl cut services with Elaine and the occasional make-up service with Mellyia. But today I wanted to jump on to give Courtney some well deserved recognition. From time to time the studio offers arriving guests the chance to spin a wheel to win a discount. I was lucky to receive a really good discount for a facial, so despite usually getting my facials at a spa with all the relaxation amenities, I decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, Courtney's facials are just as good if not better than what I had been receiving at the fancy (read expensive) place. She does an anti-aging treatment that has made a significant difference on the deep line I have between my eyebrows and my skin is always glowing and dewy fresh when I leave. Courtney is so knowledgeable and client-focused -- a pleasure to talk to as well. The pricing is very fair and because I am no longer paying for day spa amenities I can actually give my skin the time and attention it needs with a service every six weeks. And this is not to say that Courtney doesn't work in some relaxation during the service -- she provides a nice shoulder massage as part of the deal. I highly recommend checking out the facial services at Choices. So happy the wheel spin sent me down this path, but don't wait -- you will definitely win just by booking an...
