My husband bought a 2020 GMC Sierra from Garber Randall GMC in Canandaigua this past May, and in under 90 days we’ve already made three service trips—each one more outrageous than the last.
In week one the tires were so badly out of balance the truck vibrated at highway speeds, yet we received no apology—just a quick fix and sent on our way. On purchase day our salesman, Raymond Burke, promised a second key at no charge; weeks of empty phone calls blaming the previous owner for “forgetting” to ship it only ended when we returned in person to pick up a complimentary replacement.
Then, just last week, my husband was cruising on the highway when the oil light blazed on and the engine went bone-dry. Garber Randall GMC’s “solution,” as relayed by head of service David Hoe, was to drive another 600 miles to see if the oil consumption would settle, then bring it back—because it’s “more than likely” an engine failure requiring a teardown and rebuild, covered for just two years. At drop-off Tuesday David Hoe acted clueless about our previous issues, circling answers without offering any timeline or accountability.
Their courtesy loaner lacked running boards—especially problematic since my husband had previous knee surgery. When we asked for a different vehicle, we were told the only available vehicle was the 2025 model we were in, which still wouldn’t solve the entry issue. What should have been a short repair turned into an uncomfortable two-week ordeal—and something about this whole experience doesn’t make me feel secure with my purchase moving forward.
A 2020 Sierra should never need tire rebalancing, a replacement key, and an engine rebuild before its first anniversary—and a dealership that dodges responsibility, shrugs at safety issues, and leaves you stranded on the highway isn’t earning your trust. Buyer beware.
UPDATE Seven days after initially dropping off our Sierra for engine work, we spoke with Scott C. He admitted he still hadn’t found a permanent replacement and would merely “keep us in mind” if something came up—then immediately asked me to take down this review. No one at Garber Randall GMC has ever shown genuine concern; we’ve been the ones relentlessly reaching out for answers. To make matters worse, one of the sales reps told my husband the truck isn’t even covered under the state’s lemon law, effectively stripping us of basic consumer protections. In this brittle economy, investing hard‑earned money in an undesirable, malfunctioning, and potentially unsafe vehicle—and being pressured to erase honest feedback—is unacceptable. Until they either deliver a true, permanent replacement or complete the promised repairs to our full satisfaction, this review remains. Buyers beware: here, your safety and satisfaction clearly come second to their...
Read moreI’ve waited till today to comment a review on Garber Randall dealership service maintenance department. Just received GM denial of replacement battery and Garber Randall maintenance failed to fix problem last year. Customer care I see is not important to this dealership. Read below to see why I would strongly suggest buying any new vehicle from some else and especially taking your maintenance problems elsewhere.
My issue with maintenance department is simple, last April took my new 2021 GMC AT4 in for an electric draw issue. I bought the truck brand new 2021 as it was just delivered 2 days prior to me looking and then buying. For the issue is if my truck sat more the 3 weeks, I’d have to jump start my new truck. So when it was in April 2023, was told battery was ok and when it happens again bring the truck in. The problem is my battery would be completely recharged after 35 minute drive to Garber Randall GMC and dealership close to me is know to have negative reviews regarding the maintenance department.
Over the year been driving the truck every couple of weeks or at least starting it remotely to insure it starts when needed.
Recently we went on an RV trip to the northeast for little over a month. Got home and went to start my truck, course dead again. Put a multimeter on it and it read 2 volts. Called the dealership and was told this happens with sitting so long and some vehicles on their lot has to be jump started. I called bullshit and it’s been warm enough this summer, plus truck has 27,000, just over three years old. Was told bring it in and they’ll take a look.
Problem was trouble shot while getting my inspection. So I was told I had a bad battery when I brought it in and it would cost me $160. I explained that I literally had it in last year for this problem and they found no issue. I find it ironically that truck just went over 36 months and they now want to charge me for new battery. Can’t believe a company this size can’t replace a battery with all the money they take in. So be very very cautious if you attend to deal with maintenance service department. Will say service rep was very professional and can tell he’s just following Garber Randall policies.
Currently will not buy another vehicle from this dealership or recommend based on service maintenance department. Their gimmick with free truck inspections as now I have suspension of them trying to get more business in maintenance.

Just received your comment regarding my review. The only corrective action or right thing for Garber Randall Buick GMC dealership to do is replace the battery at no cost to the consumer. If you truly want to resolve this issue, you have my contact information in your system. So this is...
Read moreI'll never buy a vehicle from this dealership again. The sales associate was excellent. However...... The guy who does the closing " final" paper work while trying to over sell you extra warranties was to say nicely as possible. Less than professional and even at one point raising his voice out of anger. I had 2 free oil changes on my used 2022 GMC Denali I purchased at this dealership. On my second oil change I dropped the vehicle off very early in the morning before work. Left the keys in the envelope drop box. And filled the envelope out with my information. I added that the vehicle has a slight shake when breaking. I knew it was a front right rotor. I picked the vehicle up later that day and asked what is the issue with the breaks? I was told" you were covered under warranty and we put 4 brand new rotors on your vehicle" I was thinking very Nice. I put $10,000 cash down. And traded in a 2015 GMC Sierra fully loaded leather. I took a $3000 loss at trade in. Needless to say within 2 days the brand new rotors were completely rusted!!!!! Yes completely rusted. So after several phone calls and going round and round with this dealership. I was told. The underrighter " warranty department" made a mistake and you were not under warranty. And we removed your stock GMC " Coated" rotors that do not rust and put the cheapest rotors on available. " If you want to purchase the high end $240 a piece rotors we will install them for you" My truck is a black GMC Denali with 22" stock black rims. Carbon pro bed. And now I have 4 rusty rotors that looks absolutely horrible. They installed the old brake pads, did not install new brake hardware, one of the new rotors had a huge grove on it already along with the brake pad had a matching grove. One of the front caliper slide spins was badly bent when I took them apart. That bent pin did not happen from normal function. That's the cause of a bad mechanic when they worked on the brakes last. Both rear rotor " keeper bolts" the mechanic, service department snapped off and left them out!!! I tried to resolve this issue speaking to the dealerships head service manager. I was basically told to pound salt.
Big thumbs down to...
