Had a wonderful hike here last Thursday. I parked my car on 9D just north of the Bear Mountain Bridge, right before the Veteran's MIA Memorial Highway sign. Walked a few feet down to the trailhead where the white trail starts and ascends up 500 feet to the blue trail. The weather was in the upper 40's to low 50's and overcast but to me it was perfect hiking weather. The ascent was rocky but once getting on the blue trail it was more level. Hiked the blue trail to Anthony's Nose and took some pictures. Then I continued on the blue trail over a rock and walking parallel with the Hudson River and then down the descent toward the toll booth parking area. I did not go all the way to the tollbooth but turned around and took the blue trail back to the white trail. As a precaution, I took a big stick on the way back down the white trail so I would not slip. Only met 3 other hikers but then again it is better to hike during the week and not the weekend when it will be more crowded. My hike lasted...
Read moreMy friends and I hiked the 9D trail, which is what this review will be based on. For those who cannot or do not want to drive, you can get here via Metro-North Railroad. However, the direct line to Manitou station is only accessible on weekends. It is an easy walk to the trailhead, which takes roughly 30 minutes. Of course, you can park alongside the trailhead, but it is a first-come-first-serve basis. This trail is moderate and is neither long, nor short. The trailhead begins with a steep, rock climb. You do not need hiking experience to make it through. I HIGHLY recommend not going after it rains since the rocks will be muddy and slippery. After the rock stairs, it is an easy walk straight to the overlook point. From the trailhead to the overlook point, it should take...
Read moreThe hike up to Anthony's Nose is steep, but it's worth the effort. The views are spectacular. That being said, the rocks are covered in grafitti, and you're pretty close the road the entire time. The trail is also very crowded. I got there at 7 in the morning, and there were already 5 other cars parked on the side of the road. If you want some great views, you should check it out. Just don't expect to get any solitude in nature.
The trailhead is located at the side of route 9 on the side opposite of the water. There' no parking lot, but you can just park on the side of the road. It's a hike is very steep, but the trail to the top of the mountain is only about a...
