I was reluctant to write a review but I thought it was important to. At the very beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak in mid March my husband and I along with our resident dog did a meet-and-greet with Sierra. She was adorable and had a ton of energy which worked great with our dog! Our dog is a medium sized pup who gets along well with many other dogs, which is why we wanted a second dog for our pack. The folks at the shelter did tell us that Sierra didn't get along great with big dogs which wasn't necessarily a red flag but it should have been. We brought her home and slowly worked to transition her with our dog, but in an unprovoked attack she went after our resident dog. We followed all the necessary steps to separate them and tried to bring them back together but each time we did she continued to go after our dog. We spoke with folks at the shelter and they connected us with their behaviorist who offered valuable advice. After we explained the behaviors she told us that the attacks against our dog would continue based on Sierra's behavior. After much thought and discussion we made the difficult decision to bring her back. When I spoke with the shelter to make arrangements to bring her back they told me that they would make sure she found a home that would be better for her and that perhaps she needed to be the only dog in the home. I was extremely sad but hopeful that her experience with us would help them find a better home for Sierra. I recently looked on the ARF website again at adoptabledogs and saw that she is still there but it lists that she is crate trained which she is not and that "she likes all other dogs", which she definitely does not. Sierra is a very smart dog and with training would be a great companion for a couple but I am disappointed that the information on her profile has not been updated accurately. Everyone there was very nice but we feel as though we weren't given enough information about Sierra and the lack of update on the website bothers me. I don't want to see anyone else wind up in our position because it was very emotional for my husband and I and our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBefore I start my review let me correct the one review I seen by Steve. We wrnt to adopt our new addition on a Sunday, 5 months ago. The place was very busy of people wanting to adopt. Staff was very helpful, friendly and gave us the same undivided attention as they had giving to everyone there. I have no idea the reason behind his negative review. I'm glad he didn't get a dog with that type of not true negativity. We didn't experience that. Even at the recent alumni staff went around greeting people. They even stopped in the busy day to talk to people whom wanted to share their adoption story. I was very happy when they remembered my little guy. It showed us that they really know and care for their dogs. Just not understanding the poor review. He just might be a bitter and unhappy man. Again, so glad he didn't adopt. Yes, i am a true adopter. My new best friend is 2 and is a corgi mix. I couldn't be mire happy. I have been looking for a dog for almost a year for my puggle. So many places so many sad dogs hoping for a home. My heart broke, but none felt right. My veterinarian told me anout ARF. Strangely the dog that i have been looking at through photo and kept going back to him was in ARF. We wnt down to adopt him. We brought him home and he slept for 3 days and after 3 days he joined the family. It was as if he belonged here. As if He lived with us for yrs. He just fit in so well. He bonded with his puggle sister quickly. He immediately became a mama's boy. We love him so much. We are so happy with him. He is perfect. I keep saying he was such a good choice. Both dogs look so cute together. Thank you ARF for connecting us with our new addition to our family. Our new best friend. We couldn't be more happy. My Albie was truely worth the search and the wait. The staff was so helpful and friendly. It was a busy Sunday and they gave us the same undivided attention as they gave to others. Such a great place. Thank you ARF and thank you to my vet. We just love him. He...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter losing my 17 year old poodle I was reluctant to replace her as I had a 10 year old poodle still at Home . I saw the kind lady who works at ARF several times a week and she would inform me when there was a poodle available for adoption. A couple of months passed and we went to ARF to see a SC kill shelter rescue, she was great and got along with my 10 year old so we brought her home and named her Abigail. I Felt really bad that someone lost this well-trained five-year-old animal for whatever reason, she looked sad and alone and I searched many websites to see if I could find someone looking for her to no avail. A few weeks after bringing home Abigail I got a call from Jenny at ARF and she said there was another small 10 pound poodle that came from the same South Carolina kill shelter and had similar markings as Abigail. Off we went to ARF with Abigail and my 10-year-old Nelly to meet this other PUP who had been separated from Abigail after arriving at Arf, when they saw each other it was a great family reunion needless to say we took him home also, they are obviously siblings and get along great Abigail is no longer sad she has her brother now and his name is Capt Rhett Butler Iām sorry that somebody had to give these animals up for whatever reason but I couldnāt be happier with my experience at ARF and how this has improved our life and saved these pups. All the folks at ARF are excellent, very helpful and obviously caring...
