DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE BEACH

I've been wanting to try Lake Taghkanic Beach and it's about 25 minutes (15 miles) away taking local roads and the Taconic. I finally decided to pack up and take the dog to Lake Taghkanic Beach. It's a nice drive -- it was a picture-perfect day. When we arrived, there was a sign posted outside the attendant's booth that indicated that no dogs are allowed on the beach. When I asked the attendant in the booth if dogs were allowed at any of the beaches (not sure they have more than one), they said "no." We turned around and went home.

What's confusing are the great dog-friendly reviews for this park. Is it possible that it's not dog friendly for daily visitors and there's a different set of rules for campers?

At a minimum, it seems that it should be made clear that dogs are not allowed in any body of water in the park on a hot summer day, given that folks could be coming from much further distances than us.

Thanks...

Always have a good time. We have our family reunion here every year and it is always a nice place to have a good bbq. The lake is nice and there is a beach with a swimming area for people. They have plenty of picnic tables and BBQs to grill on or bring your own portable one. It's usually pretty crowded and picnic spots tend to fill up early. There are row boats, kayaks and canoes you can rent or bring your own. There is a food stand, the bathroom has showers to wash yourself off, they have camping here and cabins you can rent. They even have bow hunting during hunting seasons. All around great place far enough away from the city...

Nice beach, huge parking lot, okay priced concessions cafe, boat house, park with picnic grills, basketball court, soccer field, beach volleyball, hiking trails this park has it all! Light crowd on June 7th weekend. Water was cold but they had enough lifeguards in case the crowds swelled. Boathouse rents kayaks, pedal boats, v-hull/flat hull rowboats for $10/hr and $40 deposit. Lake itself can be a little choppy when wind is strong. Nice place to bring your camp chairs and just hang out by the beach. Also when looking at the lake from the beach you're facing east more or less so I'm guessing sunrises here would be...

Our first excursion to the Lake of many this year... most beach blankets were 10 feet apart, everyone wore masks at the concession center and in the restroom... Even the lifeguards were in the water reminding people to social distance when they were not with their family... The New Normal... Still a great day.. as we left we could see that the park was closed and they were letting families in one car at a time, lined up on a staging point on the Taconic State Parkway..

Visited here around lunch on a hot Sunday, probably not the best timing. Carpark was busy and the beach was rammed, also the grass areas to the left and right were also busy. We managed to find a perfect pitch under a tree which was great for shade. The lake is well lifeguarded and the water was pretty clear. We wanted to hire 4 boats but they only take cash and need a cash deposit, 'who carries cash these days'! The cafe/bar was very busy with around a 40min queue.
