DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE BEACH
I've been wanting to try Lake Taghkanic Beach and it's about 25 minutes (15 miles) away taking local roads and the Taconic. I finally decided to pack up and take the dog to Lake Taghkanic Beach. It's a nice drive -- it was a picture-perfect day. When we arrived, there was a sign posted outside the attendant's booth that indicated that no dogs are allowed on the beach. When I asked the attendant in the booth if dogs were allowed at any of the beaches (not sure they have more than one), they said "no." We turned around and went home.
What's confusing are the great dog-friendly reviews for this park. Is it possible that it's not dog friendly for daily visitors and there's a different set of rules for campers?
At a minimum, it seems that it should be made clear that dogs are not allowed in any body of water in the park on a hot summer day, given that folks could be coming from much further distances than us.
Thanks...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAlways have a good time. We have our family reunion here every year and it is always a nice place to have a good bbq. The lake is nice and there is a beach with a swimming area for people. They have plenty of picnic tables and BBQs to grill on or bring your own portable one. It's usually pretty crowded and picnic spots tend to fill up early. There are row boats, kayaks and canoes you can rent or bring your own. There is a food stand, the bathroom has showers to wash yourself off, they have camping here and cabins you can rent. They even have bow hunting during hunting seasons. All around great place far enough away from the city...

Light crowd on June 7th weekend. Water was cold but they had enough lifeguards in case the crowds swelled. Boathouse rents kayaks, pedal boats, v-hull/flat hull rowboats for $10/hr and $40 deposit. Lake itself can be a little choppy when wind is strong. Nice place to bring your camp chairs and just hang out by the beach. Also when looking at the lake from the beach you're facing east more or less so I'm guessing sunrises here would be...
